Sanya, 28 Jan (Xinhua) -- On 28 January, four optical satellites from the "Hainan No. 1" satellite project departed from Sanya and are scheduled to be launched at the Wenchang Cosmodrome in the near future.

Wang Lei, deputy chief designer of the "Hainan No. 1" satellite project, introduced that the "Hainan No. 1" satellite project contains 4 stars, which are Hainan No. 1 01 satellite, 02 satellite, Wenchang No. 1 01 satellite, 02 satellite, is a set of remote sensing of the earth and ship AIS (ship automatic identification system) collection as one of the tiny satellites, mainly for Hainan and the ring province of the sea for remote sensing imaging. Among them, the biggest feature of Hainan No. 1 01 satellite is that it can carry out on-satellite image processing, "through the calculation module carried in the satellite, the satellite can identify the captured ship, and the entire image is not transmitted when the data is transmitted down, which will greatly increase the data transmission efficiency."

Wang Lei said that after the satellite is launched into orbit, through the network observation of 4 satellites, a large amount of satellite remote sensing data in Hainan and its surrounding areas can be obtained every day, which can provide all-round operational dynamic observation of Hainan Island and its jurisdictional areas. It can ensure Hainan's spatial data needs in key areas such as natural resources, agriculture, forestry, marine environment monitoring, marine shipping, maritime emergency search and rescue, and fishery information services.

As the first phase of the Hainan satellite constellation, the expedition of four optical satellites means that the formation of Hainan's "exclusive" satellite constellation has entered a substantive stage.

Yang Tianliang, executive director of the Hainan Research Institute of the Academy of Aerospace Information of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and chief designer of the Hainan Satellite Constellation Project, introduced that the Hainan Satellite Constellation plans ten satellites, consisting of four optical satellites of "Hainan No. 1", two optical satellites of "Wenchang No. 1", two hyperspectral satellites of "Sanya I" and two SAR (synthetic aperture radar) series of satellites of "Sansha I".

Yang Tianliang said that through this constellation, it is possible to obtain rapid observation capabilities in and around Hainan, and can respond accurately and quickly when emergencies occur. At the same time, the completion of the Hainan satellite constellation will help China to carry out marine environmental protection, marine resource exploration, marine dynamic monitoring and other work, and provide scientific and technological support for investment and economic activities along the "Maritime Silk Road".

Xu Guanhua, director of the Expert Committee of the "Hainan No. 1" Satellite Project, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and former minister of science and technology, believes that if the satellite can be successfully launched, it will mark that Hainan has already had satellite design and development capabilities, and will further promote the wide application of Hainan satellite data in key areas such as natural resources, agriculture, forestry, marine environment, marine shipping, maritime emergency search and rescue, and fishery information services, and then build a set of satellite design, assembly, launch, reception, processing in Hainan. It is applied to the complete commercial aerospace ecological industry chain and realized the goal of "Hainan Star, Hainan Made, Hainan Hair, Hainan Use, and Create a Hainan Commercial Aerospace Development Road" proposed by the project team.

Xu Guanhua suggested that in addition to providing data services for the relevant departments and related fields of Hainan Province, the Hainan Satellite Constellation should also provide data sharing and services for the whole country and the world, which is not only in line with the international positioning of hainan free trade port, but also fully reflects the concept of Hainan satellite service global.
