Up to $17 billion! The demand for microwave transmission equipment will accelerate in the next five years

The latest forecast report from market research firm Dell'Oro Group shows that the demand for microwave transmission equipment in the global market is rising, with about $17 billion expected to be needed over the next five years. During the forecast period, packet microwave revenue is expected to outpace hybrid systems due to the increasing use of E-band systems.

Jimmy Yu, vice president of Dell'Oro Group, said: "We expect more growth in microwave transmission equipment in the future. This growth will be driven in large part by the expansion of 5G networks. We also believe that the government's initiative to introduce high-speed broadband to rural areas will increase the demand for microwave equipment. ”

He added: "In the case of fiber not available, the E-band is the best wireless technology that can meet the needs of 5G mobile backhaul. In addition, it is also very much in line with the rural broadband development plan, and the cost and time-consuming of laying optical fiber in rural areas is prohibitive. As a result, we expect demand for E-band systems to accelerate over the next year or so. ”

Other highlights of this five-year forecast for microwave transmission and mobile callback include:

Over the cumulative period from 2022 to 2026, the market revenue for mobile backhaul transmissions is expected to be approximately $26 billion. We estimate that nearly 65% of this will be used for 5G backhaul. Microwave transmission radio transceiver shipments are expected to grow at a COMPOUND annual growth rate of 4%. E/V band shipments are expected to grow at a COMPOUND annual growth rate of 27% during this period. The use of microwave all-outdoor units (FODUs) is expected to continue to increase for the foreseeable future, with a share of microwave shipments exceeding 50% by 2026.
