Cariad, a software subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, has reached a partnership with Bosch, an international auto parts supplier, announcing a joint statement announcing that they will cooperate in the development of autonomous driving software. At that time, the software will be installed in all Volkswagen Group brand models. In addition, the two sides will jointly study the development goals and timelines of L4 autonomous driving.

This is the second collaboration between Volkswagen and Bosch announced during the year. Just last week, two German companies announced they would form a joint venture by the end of the year to build a European battery equipment manufacturing plant.
From the information released so far, the software developed by Cariad in cooperation with Bosch will realize the L2 level autonomous driving function that includes "off-hand" driving on urban, rural and highways, and the L3 level automatic driving function that takes over all driving situations on the highway.
The software's L2 level autonomous driving function is expected to be installed in production vehicles in 2023.
Cariad introduced that the focus of the cooperation between the two parties is data-driven software development based on 360-degree surround perception information. At the peak of the project's development, more than 1,000 projects from Cariad and Bosch will work together. At the same time, both parties are also considering recruiting new employees for the project.
"The best testing ground for the development of autonomous driving is road traffic, and with the help of [Volkswagen] the world's largest connected vehicles, our autonomous driving systems will take to the next level," said Mathias Pillin, President of Bosch Cross-Domain Computing Solutions, on the partnership.
In a personnel change at the end of last year, Diess retained the POSITION of CEO of the Volkswagen Group, but lost actual control of the China business in the supervisory board and was replaced by Cariad, who took over the software division. As a solid promoter of the electrification reform and transformation of the Volkswagen Group, this cooperation with Bosch can also be the first fire for the appointment of The des Des "new officials".
According to the previous plan, by 2025, Cariad will provide 60% of the software for Volkswagen, which is much higher than the 10% target set by Cariad at the beginning of its establishment.
The two sides have not disclosed the specific amount of investment, but the New Auto strategy announced in July last year shows that by 2026, the Volkswagen Group will invest 89 billion euros in electrification and digital mobility, of which 52 billion euros will be used for electric mobility.
In addition to Bosch, Volkswagen has also previously reported rumors of cooperation in the development of autonomous driving technology with Huawei, and Volkswagen China CEO has also confirmed that the two sides do have relevant negotiations, but there has been no further news since then.
In a recent interview, Diess pointed out that there is no company that is currently doing very well in both hardware and software, "don't think about a year, two years or five years to become a game ( do this game ), even Tesla, it took 15 years, cost 15 billion US dollars, or even 20 billion US dollars to achieve profitability."
