On January 25, China Telecom announced that 5G news was officially commercialized.
The progress of the three major telecom operators is similar, and the current 5G news basically has the conditions for commercial use.
The main difficulties encountered in the current large-scale commercial use:
1. There are not enough terminals that support 5G messaging, and it is likely that operators need to launch alternative tools for the APP version at the same time;
2, the business model is not clear enough, for individual users, how to make breakthroughs in revenue and activity, for enterprise users, how to let them see the benefits, but also do not let them make 5G messages into a tool to send spam marketing information, this is what operators must think clearly.
But the reality is not optimistic. At least two operators have made it clear that for individual users, the reception is free, and the sending is charged by SMS (it feels like using 5G messages as an MMS service). The high pricing of sms will greatly limit the user's interest. Fortunately, personal replies to corporate messages are also free.
For enterprise users, many of the active partners are doing business information promotion or SMS value-added services, they are good at sending SMS ads and verification code services, which will continue to live SMS, but it is not conducive to the establishment of a healthy business environment.
Statistics from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show that in 2020, a total of 1,779.6 billion text messages were sent across the country, most of which were commercial advertisements and verification codes. After experiencing a long downturn, the volume and revenue of SMS business have improved significantly after 2018, but the proportion of "peer-to-peer" SMS between individuals is very small, and the increase mainly comes from commercial promotion SMS and verification code.

Regarding the market size of 5G news, some consulting companies have given an annual scale of more than 100 billion yuan, looking at the number is very large, but it accounts for less than 7% of the operator's business hall. Its role in increasing operator revenue is also limited.
