The turn-based strategy game space has just welcomed a new player, and Former Firaxis developer Greg Foertsch revealed that he set up a new studio, Bit Reactor. The studio is made up of other Firaxis developers as well as some talent from other studios.

Greg Foertsch was previously the artistic director of Firaxis, where he worked for more than 20 years. He worked on several games at Firaxis, including XCOM, XCOM 2, Civilization 3, and Civilization 4.

Greg Foertsch's Bit Reactor will stick to the turn-based strategy genre, and in an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, he revealed that he has big plans for the future of the studio and the type of game he makes.

Greg Foertsch said: "[Turn-based strategy games] the whole genre is starting to regress, and there is not enough capacity at the same time, but it is still declining. There are many ways to tell a story and convey a message without the need for large paragraphs of text. That's what we're focused on – incorporating it into this genre of play, blurring the line between strategy and action games. ”

Greg Foertsch, who has ambitious goals for the studio, said he wants Bit Reactor to bring home the title of "Game of the Year": "We want to go head-to-head with Halo or other games, just as we did in 2012." ”

Bit Reactor already has multiple undisclosed games in development, though the new studio isn't ready to share details of its games. But Greg Foertsch said the studio's focus will be on providing a good experience for strategy games on console and PC, but he's "super interested" in making these types of games available online and on mobile platforms across platforms.
