Recently, some new car-making forces have successively announced their sales results in 2021, compared with 2020, almost all new car-making forces have increased sales, of which WM Motors, which ranks in the second echelon, is still playing a steady role, delivering 44,157 new cars in 2021, an increase of 96.3% year-on-year, ranking fifth among new car-making forces. In the product series of WM Motors, the WM EX5, which focuses on the price range of 150,000 yuan, is still the responsibility for brand sales, and the good cost performance and low cost of the car are welcomed by many young users.
However, affected by the recent news about the increase in the commercial insurance cost of new energy vehicles, many WM EX5 car owners have expressed concerns, fearing that the rise in premiums will increase the cost of the car. So is that really the case? Next, we will investigate the maintenance costs, insurance costs and electricity costs of the WM EX5.
Insurance costs
Before the increase in commercial insurance costs last year, we conducted a survey of insurance costs of the "2022 EX5-Z Nex Exploration Edition" of the popular model of WM EX5, and after purchasing 1 million three major insurance types, car damage insurance and compulsory traffic insurance, the total premium for the first year was about 5750 yuan. After our inquiry and calculation, we learned that the first year premium increase of the same model of WM EX5 is not large, about 50-200 yuan, so we calculate with a minimum increase of 50 yuan, WM EX5 first year premium now needs about 5800 yuan, the total cost of three-year insurance is about 14500 yuan, which is 125 yuan more expensive than before. If you count the differences between different insurance companies, different regions, and different insurance programs, this cost change is believed to be negligible.
Maintenance cost survey
According to the maintenance manual, the initial warranty time of the WM EX5 is 3000km or 3 months (whichever comes first), and it is necessary to check the three-electric system and chassis. After that, the maintenance interval is 10,000km or 12 months, and in addition to the routine inspection, the air conditioning filter element needs to be replaced. It is worth mentioning that the regular inspection fee of WM EX5 is free, which is more sincere than most new car-making forces and can save a lot of money for car owners. In terms of other parts replacement cycle and price: antifreeze and gear oil need to be replaced every 60,000 km; brake fluid and 12V battery need to be checked/replaced every 40,000 km. The price of air conditioning filter is 102 yuan, the price of gear oil is 142 yuan, the price of antifreeze is 160 yuan, and the price of brake fluid is 84 yuan (the above price does not include man-hours).
We take the general family car three-year driving 60000km as the car cycle, calculate the maintenance cost of WM EX5, about 2325 yuan, the average annual need is about 775 yuan, and the small maintenance is 135 yuan. It can be seen that the maintenance price of WM EX5 is at an average level in the same level, and there are fewer maintenance items, longer maintenance cycles, and daily car maintenance can save a lot of worry. In addition, compared with some new energy vehicle brands that need to charge inspection fees for each maintenance, WM EX5 is free, which is commendable.
Electricity Bill Survey
The NEDC endurance of the WM EX5 reached 403km, which is not high in its class. According to our survey, its actual power consumption per 100 kilometers is about 14.5kWh. We calculate the electricity bill of WM EX5 based on the current household electricity consumption of about 0.56 yuan / kWh, driving 10,000 kilometers is 812 yuan, and 60,000 kilometers is 4872 yuan. Similarly, this electricity level is also average in the same level of products, there are not too many surprises, but the low electricity price is still much less than the fuel burning, and the monthly electricity bill is only a fraction of the same level of fuel vehicles.

We add up the adjusted insurance costs, maintenance costs and electricity costs to calculate that the cost of the WM EX5 driving 60,000km in three years is about 21,697 yuan, an average of about 7,232 yuan per year, an average of about 602 yuan per month, and an average daily cost of 20 yuan. Compared to before, the monthly cost has not changed much, and users do not need to worry about it.
However, in the recent "lock electric door" incident exposed by WM Motors, we still have to pay special attention to the incident, the incident is probably WM Motors in the name of OTA upgrade "lock electricity", so that the original can travel 350 kilometers of vehicles, now can only run less than 260 kilometers, the battery charge is limited to about 5 degrees, directly affecting the endurance of more than 80 kilometers. As for the reason, the official explanation is to reduce the risk of "spontaneous combustion" and improve charging safety. Of course, this matter has yet to be dealt with, but before it is resolved, whether the WM EX5 is worth buying, we will have to put a question mark.
