According to the US "Army Times" website reported on January 15, in early January, the 31st Marine Corps Expedition jumped on a dinghy and helicopter to conduct a small-scale raid operation exercise to prepare for future deployment.

A Marine Corps press release said the Marine Expedition, in cooperation with local and federal law enforcement agencies in Hawaii, conducted multiple small raids on ships and buildings, simulating searches for "sensitive material" and wanted persons.

"This realistic urban warfare training is coordinated with state governments, local landowners and law enforcement," the press release said. The Honolulu Police Department and other law enforcement agencies participate in training to become proficient in high skills in similar environments. ”

In the 20 years of war in the Middle East, urban warfare training has been a staple of the Marine Corps.

As the military's focus shifts to the Pacific, the Marine Corps places less emphasis on urban warfare training and more on distributed operations.

In 2020, the Marine Corps eliminated a high-density urban warfare practice in favor of focusing on growing the Marine Corps' Littoral Regiment and other concepts related to distributed naval warfare.

Despite the shift in focus, fighting in certain urban environments remains one of the "basic tasks" of the 31st Expedition.

It is reported that the raid was carried out by the reconnaissance platoon of the Marine Corps Expeditionary Force, which is part of the Marine Corps Maritime Raid Force.

In an email sent to Marine Times, Captain Nicole Gallegos said the events show that Marine Corps reconnaissance units are capable of conducting deep reconnaissance missions, conducting limited small raids and combat operations.

She said the training sites were "near joint Pearl Harbor-Hickam Base, Marine Corps Base in Kaneough Bay, Hawaii, Schofield Barracks and Eva Beach Training Ground."

Photos of the raid reportedly showed U.S. Marines in rubber boats heading for ships at sea. Upon arrival at the target ship, the Marines completed the boarding, search, and seizure of the vessel in turn, intercepting sensitive equipment.
