Rainbow Six: Xeno Demo Experience: Probably more fun than you think

"Just sell 298 for this?"

Since its inception, Rainbow Six: Xenoblade has never been far from the above public opinion storm. All this reached its peak last summer: Ubisoft released a real machine demo in June that can be described as full of chicken feathers, and the bright PvE gameplay made many fans who were looking forward to the Rainbow Squad operators fight the ancient fungus alien lifeform chilled, and even later Ubisoft itself silently lowered the price of Rainbow Six: Xenomorph by 100 yuan.

Rainbow Six: Xeno Demo Experience: Probably more fun than you think

To be honest, I hesitated for a long time when I received the invitation from Ubisoft China, and finally accepted it out of love for Siege. Unexpectedly, after actually experiencing Rainbow Six: Xenomorph, I felt that Ubisoft should fire the people who did the live demonstration last year — because the promo didn't show how fun the game was.

It's not that I'm embarrassed to say that Rainbow Six: Xenomorph is a masterpiece, I just want to say that the previous Internet may have underestimated its playability. Unlike last year's mediocre "Outbreak Action Day Tour", today's Rainbow Six: Xenomorph has the difficulty of the popular cooperative PvE game on the far-flung supermarket, and puts forward no low requirements for the player's tactical awareness, operational proficiency, game understanding and tacit understanding.

If you're already wondering what Rainbow Six: Xenomorph is all about, take a few minutes to read this Rainbow Six Xenomorph demo from Siege's 3,000-hour veteran players.

Note: Everything is subject to change after the official release.

>>> written on the front: What is Rainbow Six: Xenomorph?

Although the public opinion before "Rainbow Six: Xenomorph" was boiling, I still had to give friends who had not understood this game what it was, and if I already knew it, I would just turn it down.

The PvP tactical shooter Rainbow Six: Siege launched a PvE mode called "Outbreak" in 2018, which tells the story of the Rainbow Squad investigating the invasion of mysterious alien parasitic life in New Mexico, USA, and Rainbow Six: Xenomorph is the parallel world of Siege: where dangerous and intelligent alien life destroys the order of the world, and the Rainbow Squad transforms into a REACT rapid reaction force, active in the dangerous zone of ancient mushroom parasitism. Complete one task after another that ordinary people cannot complete.

>>> Mechanics: Some Roguelike flavored PvE

In fact, the gameplay of Rainbow Six: Xenotropic is not complicated, that is, PvE with a little Roguelike element.

The game has more than 10 maps, 4 difficulties, 18 operators and 13 different mission situations, and after confirming the map and difficulty, the system will randomly assign 13 different mission situations to 3 different blocks of the map. All the player has to do is complete the tasks in these 3 blocks one by one, the lower the block, the more rewards and the higher the risk, and when to retreat can be chosen by the player. In addition, Xenomorph will also use a new mutation mechanism to provide enemies with additional enhancement buff under high difficulty, thus changing the rhythm of the game itself to a large extent.

If that's not enough roguelike, Xenomorph's death penalty should be completely exhaustive: a rogue who falls to the ground in battle is wrapped in a solid layer of REACT technology foam, leaving the ancient bacteria that capture the operators helpless — naturally, the player needs to operate another operator to the same block of the same map for rescue missions. If the rescue mission is successful, the operator will return to the REACT squad with a serious injury and lose some experience points, and after a period of rest, he can fight again.

Adding these mechanics together, each Xenomorph game will be unique: sometimes, the player will find that the not-so-difficult "interrupt parasitic source" mission will be difficult because the hatching sac has suddenly mutated out of the protective carapace; sometimes, the player will have to retreat from the "triangulation" mission that can be directly passed, only because the entire map is shrouded in the fog of the Chimera. I have to say that this design is really interesting, at least it doesn't make me give up the idea of continuing to play after playing the map a few times.

Xenomorph also comes with some very interesting rotation game modes every week, one of which is very eye-catching called "Battlefield Veteran". This mode will contain 100% full friendly damage, hide most of the UI interface, and directly discard all the remaining ammunition in the magazine when changing bullets, which can be said to be very real.

In addition, as players and cadres level up, more and more REACT technology, operator BUFF and new stories will be unlocked, including even ash and Mira's sweet daily life... I'm locked!

But don't think that's all Xenomorph is all about, because after the player has basically brushed the operators to the full level, the game's highlight is coming: the Vortex Protocol. This mode requires the player to travel through up to 9 different areas, and as the operator progresses, the strength and number of ancient mushrooms will increase exponentially, and the desire to attack will be very strong - the benefits are special equipment and items that cannot be obtained in other modes. As with other modes, the map and quests of the Vortex Protocol are rotated every week, so there's no need to worry about the lack of playable content.

>>> Combat Introduction: Not at all a simple hardcore stealth experience

Having said that, it's time to talk about the battles outside the map. This is also where I think Ubisoft's previous publicity is the most inadequate: it is obviously a very hardcore high-difficulty game, why is the real-machine demonstration as easy as shopping in your own garden?

Misguided, I thought that Xenomorph would be simple, so I went straight to the past with two colleagues... Then fell directly in the first level. Yes, that's right, the lowest difficulty of the first level.

We challenged the "Operation Disinfection" mission for the Monolith Garden map in New York. This quest requires the player to clean up all hatchery sacs in a room of poison gas and a blanket of germs, and if the movement is too slow, the hatching sacs will spawn indefinitely: we don't understand the danger at first, and by the time we find that the mobs are bleeding after touching them twice, it's too late. We ended up passing the level at nearly 2/3 of the team's health, and then boarded the evacuated helicopter directly, because if we went any further, we would probably be killed.

"Xenomorph" cannot be understood with the idea of "Siege", and the onslaught will only lead to the annihilation of the team - it seems that it still depends on stealth.

In fact, "Xenomorph" does encourage players to sneak through the level: the operator weapons default muzzle accessories are silencers, and the weaknesses of the monsters in the stealth state are basically second kills; the monsters will shout loudly to attract their companions after finding the player, and the hatchery in the awakened state will continue to hatch the monsters, bringing a lot of health pressure to the player; in addition, many of the props and operators of this game are also designed around stealth, such as smoke bombs and Vigils.

After switching to stealth play, we quickly passed both maps at a lower cost of health, which once again confirmed that Xenomorph does punish aggressive players. During this time, we also encountered a special mission called "Singularity Passage", which required us to fight against a powerful ancient mushroom that would transform into the appearance of a REACT operator, which was really exciting.

In addition, I also specially challenged several missions in the single-player mode, and found that the difficulty of the task will change in the single and team state, so the social fear players do not have to worry about being forced to cooperate with others, and directly enter the map to sneak through the level.

>>> summary and rating: not outstanding, but there are many highlights

Overall, Xenomorph seems to be based on the Phantom Sight season of Siege in 2019, and there is a big gap between the weapon backseat and the feel of today's Siege, so no matter how much experience you accumulate in Siege, you basically have to start from scratch in Siege.

I played Siege for 3,000 hours myself, participated in domestic esports competitions, and have a deep affection for this game. So I hope that Xenomorph will expand a new gameplay on the basis of the Rainbow Universe, so that more players can experience the unique charm of this IP. I think you Siege players can put aside the preconceived notions about Xenomorphs, take a serious look at the game, and feel its unique charm that is different from the popular co-op shooters on the market. Although it is not a god game, whether it is for Meng Xin or Siege veteran players, Xeno can provide a hardcore PvE experience that is different from the popular co-op shooters on the market.

Interestingly, Xeno also inherits some of Ubisoft's ancestral, laughable questions, such as the classic bugs that are still in the background of the game. The good news is that I have not encountered any vicious bugs that affect the game in the more than ten hours of Xenomorph game experience, and the mobile version of the 2070 graphics card that is dissatisfied with blood can easily run the excellent performance of 1080p+144FPS in medium and high quality, proving that Ubisoft's optimization level has been excellent in the past two years.

The most important thing is at the end: if you want to buy Rainbow Six: Xenomorphs, you may wish to visit the Sugi's house, which is engaged in promotions. For ¥2, you'll be able to take Xenomorph and your pre-order reward home for ¥180 with a voucher for the ninth anniversary of Shanguo for ¥20 less than ¥20.

If you buy it tomorrow, there will be no pre-order reward, so get started quickly! permit! vicious!
