Liverpool's business model could lose sadiomane and Salah

Robbie Fowler believes Liverpool's "strong" business model could cost them attacking duo Sadiomane and Mohammed Salah.

Both Salah and Mane will expire in 2023, with fans anxiously awaiting their new contracts.

The situation of Egypt international Salah has been in the headlines, with Merseyside reportedly unwilling to meet the 29-year-old's salary demands.

He has scored 23 goals and provided 9 assists in 26 games this season and has often expressed his desire to stay at Anfield after 2023.

Despite his excellent performances and success after joining Liverpool from Roma, Fowler believes the club's owners will be reluctant to adapt their "business model" to meet the needs of Salah and Mane.

"One thing I've learned in my career as a player and coach is that football has no emotion," Fowler wrote in his mirror column.

"It's a ruthless business... That's why there's no guarantee that Mosalah and Sadiomane will get the money that a lot of people think they deserve to sign the new Liverpool contract.

"Liverpool have their own business model and over the years they have been very strong in sticking to that model.

"So Emre Jan left freely, And Wijnaldum left freely. You can only assume that this is because what they are asking for is not suitable for that business model.

"Can bosses afford to give two players – or even three players, if you include Roberto Firmino – exactly what they want and still maintain their salary structure? I'm not sure.

"If they could, it must have happened now. I can understand the positions of the players on both sides and I can. I wouldn't compare my time at Liverpool to theirs.

The duo have been at the top of the world race for years and Salah has even taken his form to a different level this season.

"They'll feel like they deserve the same pay as other players at that level – they're right.

"In modern parlance, the current board now has Messi and Ronaldo in the hands of Salah and Mane. This is not an exaggeration at all. They're at that level.

"You can say that Jurgen Klopp's coaching and management turned them into world-class players, I agree. I've heard Jamie Carragh portray Salah as a club legend and I agree with that. ”
