Los Angeles random stabbing suspect Pasadena arrested

Shawn Laval Smith, a homeless man suspected of stabbing a female graduate student in a high-end furniture store in Los Angeles, was arrested in Pasadena on the 19th of this month.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Smith, 31, was found and detained by Pasadena police at around 11:50 a.m. in the Fair oaks and Colorado Avenue areas of Pasadena.

Smith allegedly stabbed Brianna Kupfer, 24, at a high-end furniture store in 300 Blocks of La Brea Avenue North, Los Angeles, at around 1:50 p.m. on Jan. 13.

A police investigation found that the suspect had left the store's back door after committing the crime. The police determined that the suspect did not know the victim, who randomly walked into the store and attacked the victim with a knife.

The suspect wandered down La Brea Avenue before and after the crime, entering many different businesses.

Los Angeles police have previously recorded that Smith was arrested for a misdemeanor in Covina in October 2020.

At present, the case has attracted the attention of the local community, and the city has allocated a reward of $50,000, and the West End community has actively donated, and the reward has exceeded $250,000 to obtain information that led to the arrest and conviction of the murderer.

According to the deceased's family, Kupffei, 24, a graduate student at UCLA, was studying architectural design, and she worked as a design consultant at the high-end furniture store before the crime.

Fox TV reported that Smith's criminal history dates back more than a decade, when he was arrested more than a dozen times in three states. He was arrested nearly 12 times between 2010 and 2019 in Charleston, South Carolina, including suspected of shooting inside someone's car. Other arrests included allegations of trespassing, misconduct, littering, possession of marijuana and trespassing.

Fox TV also reported that Smith was also implicated in a bicycle theft in Charlotte, North Carolina. He also allegedly attacked a police officer in San Mateo, California.
