Facebook critics have called on the company to publish an assessment of Human Rights in India

Jan. 20 (The Whip) critics of Facebook (now renamed Meta) on Wednesday called on the world's largest social network to publish a human rights impact assessment commissioned by Facebook in 2020 to investigate hate speech on its Indian platform.

Facebook is facing increasing scrutiny for its misuse of its own services, especially because of internal documents previously disclosed by whistleblower Frances Haugen, which the company has poorly monitored in the countries where problematic content is most likely to cause harm.

Gare Smith, a partner and chair of global business and human rights at The firm, which Facebook commissioned U.S. law firm Foley Hoag, said: "Projects like this are complex, especially in a diverse, vast country like India. ”

Miranda Sissons, Facebook's head of human rights policy, said in a statement: "Given the complexity of this work, we hope these assessments are thorough." We will report annually on how we respond to the human rights impact (of the platform content) in accordance with our human rights policy. ”
