The reporter learned from the Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources that in order to effectively strengthen the protection of terrestrial wildlife resources in Jiangmen and maintain the biological and ecological balance, a few days ago, the Notice of the Jiangmen Municipal People's Government on Prohibiting the Hunting of Terrestrial Wild Animals (hereinafter referred to as the "Notice") was officially issued, which clarified that the hunting of terrestrial wild animals is prohibited in the administrative area of the city, and the hunting ban period is 5 years.

According to reports, in order to implement the "Decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on Completely Banning illegal wildlife trade, eliminating the bad habit of indiscriminately eating wild animals, and effectively protecting the people's life, health and safety" and the "Regulations on the Protection and Management of Wild Animals in Guangdong Province" and other relevant provisions and relevant work requirements, the Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources revised some of the contents of the "Circular of the Jiangmen Municipal People's Government on Delineating and Protecting Terrestrial Wild Animals Hunting Areas and Establishing a Hunting Ban Period", thus forming the "Circular". It shall be deliberated and approved by the executive meeting of the municipal government and issued for implementation.

The "Circular" makes it clear that the administrative area of the city is designated as a game reserve. The hunting ban period is 5 years from 1 February 2022 to 31 January 2027. The targets of the ban are terrestrial wild animals listed in the List of Wild Animals under National Key Protection (2021), the Directory of Terrestrial Wild Animals under Key Protection in Guangdong Province (2021) and the List of Terrestrial Wild Animals with Important Ecological, Scientific and Social Value (2000) within Jiangmen, as well as other terrestrial wild animals whose hunting is prohibited by laws and regulations and national and provincial regulations.

"The three lists already cover the vast majority of terrestrial wildlife species that are naturally distributed in Jiangmen. Whoever hunts or kills terrestrial wild animals in violation of relevant provisions shall be punished in accordance with law; where a crime is constituted, criminal responsibility shall be pursued in accordance with law. The relevant person in charge of the Municipal Bureau of Natural Resources said that any organization and individual has the obligation to protect terrestrial wildlife and their habitats, and if the public finds illegal hunting, trading, eating terrestrial wild animals and their products, they can call 110 or 0750-3505011 to report.
