Over the course of several decades, Zhongshan County and Xiao County, successively subordinate to Henan Province, Anhui Province, and Jiangsu Province, were repeatedly divided between several provinces. So, why are Xiao County and Zhongshan County included in Anhui Province? Today, we're going to talk about that.
First, let's talk about Anhui Province. Anhui Province is one of the six provinces in central China, and its development in recent years has been very rapid. The total population of Anhui Province is more than 61 million people, and such a population base is not small in china's provinces. There are great differences between the various parts of Anhui Province, because Anhui Province connects the Central Plains, Jianghuai and Jiangnan regions of China. For example, the northern region of Anhui Province is very close to Henan Province and Shandong Province in terms of accent, customs, food and other aspects.
Suzhou City is one of the 16 prefecture-level cities under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province, and Xiao County and Yanshan County belong to Suzhou City. However, in the long course of history, Xiao County and Yanshan County have adjusted their affiliation several times. During the reign of the Tang and Song dynasties, Xiao County and Yanshan County repeatedly adjusted their places of affiliation, sometimes subordinate to Xuzhou Prefecture and sometimes subordinate to Guide Prefecture. During the Ming and Qing dynasties, the divisions of China's provinces were basically stable. During the reign of the Ming Dynasty, the Ming Dynasty had two capitals, the north and the south.
Therefore, the Ming Dynasty established the Northern Zhili and the Southern Zhili. At that time, Zhongshan County and Xiao County were under the administration of Xuzhou Prefecture in the south. In the middle of the 17th century, the Qing Dynasty in the north gradually eliminated the peasant rebels in various places and the various regimes of the Southern Ming Dynasty, and established its rule over the whole country. During the reign of the Qing Dynasty, Nanzhili was abolished and Jiangnan Province was established. Jiangnan Province includes the current Shanghai Municipality, Jiangsu Province, anhui Province, Jiangnan Province has a large population, a large area, and a very developed economy.
Given the actual situation at that time, Gangnam Province was difficult to manage. Under such circumstances, the 6th reign of the Kangxi Emperor, Jiangnan Province was abolished and divided into Jiangsu Province and Anhui Province. At that time, Jiangsu Province had 8 prefectures, 3 prefectures and 1 directly subordinate hall, namely: Jiangning Province, Suzhou Province, Songjiang Province, Changzhou Province, Zhenjiang Province, Huai'an Province, Yangzhou Province, Xuzhou Prefecture, Taicang Prefecture, Haizhou, Tongzhou, and Haimen Hall. Among them, Xuzhou Prefecture administers 1 prefecture and 7 counties.
They are: Pizhou, Tongshan County, Xiao County, Yanshan County, Feng County, Pei County, Suqian County, Suining County. At the same time, Anhui Province was divided into 8 provinces and 5 prefectures directly under the prefectures, namely: AnqingFu, HuizhouFu, Ningguofu, Chizhoufu, Taipingfu, Luzhoufu, Fengyangfu, Yingzhoufu, Lu'anzhou, Sizhou, Hezhou, Chuzhou, and Guangdezhou. In 1912, after the fall of the Qing Dynasty, China entered the stage of warlord chaos.
From the late period of Qing rule, Jiangsu, Anhui and other places suffered a series of natural disasters, such as floods, droughts, and the diversion of the Yellow River. In some areas, a large number of bandit armed forces have been bred to brutally squeeze the masses everywhere. Coupled with the mutual scuffle between warlords, it has caused great damage to the economy of various places, and the lives of the masses everywhere are very difficult. Due to parts of eastern Henan, northern Anhui and northern Jiangsu, it is urgent to enter the recuperation. At the end of the 1940s, all parts of northern China were liberated.
After the liberation of Xiao County, Lishan County, and other places, most of Jiangsu Province has not yet been liberated. Therefore, at the beginning of 1949, Xiao County and Yanshan County were placed under the administration of The Shangqiu Special District of Henan Province. However, this period of time is only a few months. In the autumn of 1949, out of the need to manage the localities, Anhui Province was divided into the Northern Anhui Administration District and the Southern Anhui Provincial Bureau, and Jiangsu Province was divided into the Northern Jiangsu Branch Office District and the Southern Jiangsu Provincial Bureau. Yongcheng County, Yanshan County, and Xiao County, which belong to the Shangqiu Prefecture of Henan Province, are under the administration of the Suxian Special District of the Northern Anhui Province.
After entering the 1950s, with the end of the large-scale war, China entered the stage of post-war reconstruction, resumption of production, development and construction. Overly complex zoning is not conducive to economic development. Therefore, in 1952, the two administrative districts of northern Anhui and southern Anhui were abolished and re-merged into Anhui Province. The two administrative districts of northern Jiangsu and southern Jiangsu were abolished and re-merged into Jiangsu Province. Subsequently, Yongcheng County, which was managed by Suxian Special District, was re-assigned to Shangqiu Special District of Henan Province. Xiao County and Yanshan County, after 3 years of escrow, were re-assigned to Jiangsu Province.
After Xiao County and Zhongshan County were re-incorporated into Jiangsu Province, they were under the administration of Xuzhou Special District. Zhongshan, Xuzhou Prefecture administers a large area of Xinhailian City, Tongshan County, Pi County, Feng County, Pei County, Xiao County, Yanshan County, Suining County, Xinyi County, Donghai County, Ganyu County and so on. On the surface, the divisions of the three provinces seem to have returned to their original pattern. However, the historical changes continue. After the reorganization of Anhui and Jiangsu provinces, large-scale projects in various places have begun one after another.
Among them, the work of harnessing Hongze Lake cannot be delayed. However, the eastern shore of Hongze Lake belongs to Jiangsu Province, and the west bank of Hongze Lake belongs to Anhui Province. The two provinces have invested a lot of manpower and material resources, and all aspects of the force need to be coordinated. In order to better manage Hongze Lake, in February 1955, Xuyi County and Sihong County in Anhui Province were placed under the administration of Jiangsu Province. In order to make up for the losses of Anhui Province, Jiangsu Province once again assigned The county under the jurisdiction of Xuzhou Prefecture to the suzhou county special district of Anhui Province.
In the 1950s, examples of land swaps between two provinces abounded for the need for major projects. For example, Nanle County, Qingfeng County, Puyang County, Changyuan County, and Dongming County in Hebei Province were placed under the administration of Henan Province. In order to compensate for the losses of Hebei Province, Henan Province assigned its own Wu'an County, Xiang County, and Linzhang County to the administration of Hebei Province. Subsequently, Dongming County was incorporated into Shandong Province. In order to make up for the losses of Henan Province, Shandong Province put its own Fan County under the administration of Henan Province.
After the county was incorporated into Anhui Province, It was then subordinated to the administration of Anhui Province. In 1956, the Suxian Special District was abolished, and Zhongshan County and Xiao County were transferred to the management of bengbu Special District. In 1961, Suxian Special District was re-established, and Zhongshan County and Xiao County were re-administered under the administration of Suxian Special District. At the end of the 1960s, after all the special districts in the country were renamed as districts, suxian special districts were renamed suxian districts. At the end of the 1970s, China's economy began to develop at a sustained and high speed.
In order to meet the needs of economic development, the various areas under the jurisdiction of Anhui Province began to be adjusted to prefecture-level cities. The jurisdictions of some of the original prefecture-level cities began to be further expanded. In 1998, the Suxian area was abolished and a prefecture-level city of Suzhou was established, and Xiao County and Zhongshan County were under the administration of Suzhou City. However, from the geographical point of view, Zhongshan County and Xiao County are relatively far from Suzhou City. Xiao County, in particular, is very close to Xuzhou City. For people in Xiao County, it is very convenient to drive to Xuzhou city, and it is much far away from Suzhou city.
