1 "Mountain Fish Examination Fragments"

By Li Yuan

After the wave | Sichuan Literature and Art Publishing House 2021-12

The Fragment of the Mountain Fish Examination is not an easy book to read, and the full text of the novel consists of a publication note, a preface, a self-statement, and a pseudo-academic paper, and revolves around a strange book and a demon lost in the depths of history. The author Li Mi first constructed an obscure "Mountain Fish Examination", revealing the fate of a declining tribe called the "Qiyin Clan". For today's people, the "Yin People" is a mystery, the historical information about the Yin people is almost scattered, and the classic "Shanlu Kao" related to the entire tribe is also missing. According to the last chapter of the "Mountain Fish Examination", "They are like a pile of walking ashes, dissipated in the dust of the sky." And to this day, their hearts are beating under the earth. In order to trace this mysterious history, scholars, translators, editors, publishers and others began to study the "Mountain Fish Examination" and the related topics of the Yin people, and the anecdotes that occurred during this period constituted the main body of the novel.

The "Shanlu Kao Remnant" seems to be "knowledge writing", but the content is purely fictional. Li has said that one of his original intentions in writing this book was to question "knowledge". In this way, he wished to illustrate, this knowledge, which claimed to be "true," had itself an element of fiction, and that fiction could be said to be an inherent property of language. "Thus, stories, novels, myths, and so on, which from the outset have conceived themselves as 'fictional', are not secondary, insignificant, or absolutely untrustworthy, but are valuable in being able to loosen the shackles of 'de-falsifying the truth' for the imagination that has always been suppressed."

Writers of Writers

Yan Lianke

Mingzhe Culture | Yilin Publishing House 2021-10

"Writers of Writers" is Yan Lianke's literary reading notes, involving Latin American literature, Russian and Soviet literature, European and American literature, Asian and African literature and other themes, and the selected writers' works are all classics that are familiar to the public, such as Kafka's "Metamorphosis", Márquez's "One Hundred Years of Solitude", Yasunari Kawabata's "The Dancing Girl of Izu", Oz's "My Mihair" and so on. Different from the literary commentaries written by experts and scholars, Yan Lianke starts from his own reading experience and presents his personal feelings of drawing the nutrition of classic literary writing in reading and creation. He said, "Rather than saying that the titles in the book are the feelings and accumulation of my own years of reading, it is better to say that a person has written for most of his life and the confession and confession of reading shortfalls." But he believes that for intelligent readers, sometimes reading a first-class book is more rewarding and enlightening than reading a first-class work.

"Writers of Writers" is also one of the series of books "Everyone Reads Everyone (Fourth Series)", which also includes Ge Fei's "The Borders of Civilization", Li Er's "Writing of Insiders", Tie Ning's "Hidden Masters" and Qiu Huadong's "The World Created by Masters".
