On January 16, Anyang City, Henan Province, held a press conference on epidemic prevention and control work, and since January 8, a total of 250 confirmed cases have been reported. Health Times combed the activity trajectory of the 102-140th confirmed cases announced by Anyang Rong Media on January 16, and 33 confirmed patients came to be teachers and students of Tangyin Yucai School in Anyang City. According to the circulation information of 140 confirmed cases released by Anyang City, a total of 115 cases are teachers and students of Tangyin Yucai Middle School in Anyang City, with 8 teachers and 107 students respectively. In student cases, all but one of the youngest 8-year-olds ranged from 17 to 20 years of age.

On January 10, according to the Anyang Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention, on January 8, Anyang City found 2 cases of positive local new coronavirus nucleic acid in the active detection population, both of which were BA.1 branches of the Aomi Kerong variant strain, which belonged to the same transmission chain as the existing local epidemic in Jinnan District, Tianjin City, and basically locked the source of infection of the epidemic in Anyang City on December 28, 2021 from Jinnan District, Tianjin City, to Tangyin County, Anyang City (case 18). According to the released circulation information, the patient (case 18) was diagnosed with a family of four, and his sister's case 7 was a senior Chinese teacher at Tangyin Yucai Middle School.

On January 11, Han Junfeng, head of the Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Section of the Anyang Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said in an interview with News 1+1 that the current cases in Anyang come from the chain of students returning from Tianjin. The first case returned to Anyang on 28 December 2021 and was quarantined and controlled on 8 January. Judging from the cases found, they are mainly distributed in the family and schools where the source of infection and the early cases are in close contact.

Yang Jian, executive deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the Tangyin County CPC Committee, said at a press conference on January 10 that in order to prevent the further spread of the epidemic, Tangyin County has transferred 4,040 people from Yucai School to three centralized medical observation points of Anyang College, Anyang Kindergarten and Anyang Vocational and Technical College.

According to the recruitment instructions of Tangyin Yucai School, the school was founded in 1999 and is the earliest full-time boarding school in northern Henan. At present, there are three departments of primary school, middle school and high school, with more than 4,000 students and more than 300 teaching staff.
