In 1950, on the front line, our army successfully drove the enemy out of the medium and large cities in the south and established control over the mainland. Although the southeast is still a front, the target is only Taiwan Province.
In accordance with the requirements of the Central Military Commission, Su Yu was responsible for commanding the operations in Taiwan with full authority. Su Yu keenly pointed out that the key to the plan was that if he wanted to cross the Taiwan Strait with all his might, it was necessary to have a sea, land, and air force with a very high level of combat.
In order to cooperate with Su Yu's operational plan for attacking Taiwan, the Central Military Commission decided to quickly form a highly specialized naval and air force:
On October 25, 1949, Liu Yalou served as the first commander of China's Air Force in the northeast. After taking office, he quickly gathered air force talents and equipment from all over the country and established a strong homeland defense air force in accordance with the idea of "building while fighting."
On January 15, 1950, the Central Military Commission specially ordered Xiao Jinguang to serve as the commander of the Navy and began to gradually build a naval combat force. In order to ensure the combat strength of the Navy, the Chairman personally led a delegation to visit the Soviet Union and signed a naval ship purchase plan worth more than $152 million.

Su Yu was making a report
At this time, the preliminary framework of our army's army, navy and air force has been completed. Obviously, launching a combat plan to enter Taiwan is the best opportunity. However, two pieces of news suddenly came, and our army's goal of liberating Taiwan had to be shelved for the time being.
At the crucial moment, Cai Xiaoqian, china's underground party secretary in Taiwan Province, rebelled, which suddenly reversed the situation in Taiwan.
Decisive moments
At this time, the Chiang family dynasty had no foothold in the mainland, and in order to continue their dominance, they decided to withdraw to Taiwan Province to continue fighting. In a vain attempt to borrow the Taiwan Strait to consolidate its last "flame."
Our army has been fighting on the mainland battlefield for a long time and has very little experience in landing operations and maritime operations. In order to ensure that the battle was foolproof, the Central Military Commission decided to appoint Su Yu as the commander of the army attacking Taiwan. Su Yu was good at fighting strange battles and loving strange tricks, and once became the most headache in jiang jun's eye in the central Soviet region.
On the land battlefield, Su Yu often dared to surprise the enemy and win as long as he had a 60% certainty. However, in the face of landing operations that he had never practiced before, Su Yu was not sure whether he could annihilate his opponent in one fell swoop. In order to be foolproof, Su Yu locked himself in the study room of the nursing home, studying maps and landfall operations of various countries every day.
At that time, in order to let Su Yu come up with a foolproof plan, Chen Yi personally ordered:
"Su Yu looked at the map and didn't allow anyone to disturb him, including me!"
However, although the environment for studying combat was relatively quiet, Su Yu was still very worried when he looked at the map. He was a traditional infantry general and excelled at using geographical terrain to make the best decisions. But the strait is rough and choppy, and no one can know whether the sea will give our army a "trip" during the landing process.
At this time, the news was returned from Hainan Island, and Xue Yue led 70,000 soldiers to flee to Taiwan Province. At the same time, the Nationalist army demanded that the 120,000 defenders of the Zhoushan Islands retreat to Taiwan, and decided to fight our army to the death on the island of Taiwan.
The combat troops in Taiwan Province have been greatly replenished, and in a short period of time, they have already sat on 400,000 troops. In addition, the Nationalist army has also actively recruited non-commissioned officers in Taiwan Province, requiring all ordinary people on the island to join their battles. The superiority of troops in Su Yu's hands was no longer obvious, and the number of the first echelon responsible for the attack was only six corps, which obviously could not easily complete the offensive operation.
Su Yu at work
In desperation, Su Yu reported to the Central Military Commission to request the transfer of the main forces of 8 armies from each field army, which could ensure that there were sufficient reserve combat units in the operation.
The Central Military Commission urgently issued an order asking all field armies to actively cooperate with Su Yu and assist him in successfully completing the operational plan for his ascension to the stage. However, in front of Su Yu, there are still several major problems. First of all, the number of transport vessels of our army to transport the main forces to land is obviously insufficient, and the number of air force and capital ships responsible for cover is also very rare.
Su Yu, who fell ill
In landing operations, if there is no massive amount of warships and fighter cover, it will cause great losses to the landing combat troops.
Taking the Allied Landings in Normandy during World War II as an example, the total number of Allied losses in the landing operation was still as high as 140,000 people while ensuring sufficient cover of ships and fighters.
Our army has neither gunboat support nor sufficient fighters to provide cover in the sky. Even if the navy and air force hollow out their homes and cooperate, it will cause very huge losses. In addition, the transport ships that our army can allocate to Su Yu can only guarantee a single round of transport of 75,000 people.
The total number of attacks in the first echelon of Su Yu's plan was as high as 150,000 people, and it was obvious that taking the initiative to carry out the battle plan would bring great trouble to Su Yu's landing battle plan. And it should be known that Su Yu had suffered in the Battle of Kinmen before, and the three regimental formations were all annihilated by the enemy in three days. Such a loss, Su Yu did not want to see a second time.
He said this at the headquarters of the Taiwan Offensive Army:
"The lesson of the Golden Gate defeat is too profound, and the lesson of blood is not taken seriously, which will cause greater losses!" Fighting across a sea, you can't start fighting with only six or seven points of certainty, you must be very sure! ”
Prisoners of war of our army in the Battle of Kinmen
Su Yu spent a lot of energy to form a stage combat unit, requiring the ships of the first echelon, the second echelon, and the third echelon to comprehensively study the specialized knowledge of navigation. The intention of the various command requirements for tides, wind directions, and landing sites was proposed. Su Yu carried the sick body to arrange the work, and finally tired on the front-line work.
On July 10, 1950, Su Yu's hypertension, gastrointestinal disease, and Meniere's syndrome recurred, and his physical condition deteriorated. At this time, unfavorable news came from Taiwan and North Korea, and the Central Military Commission decided to suspend the operational plan for the stage and asked Su Yu to go to Qingdao to recuperate.
The emergence of these two news directly shifted the focus of our army's troops' work from south China to northeast China, and the situation in Taiwan was reversed.
Followers of the revolution
At this time, news came back from Taiwan that Cai Xiaoqian, secretary of the underground party committee, had betrayed the revolutionaries and brazenly surrendered to the enemy army. Premier Zhou had previously planted 2,000 revolutionary workers inside the enemy army, and all their identities were exposed. For our army, this is undoubtedly a major loss.
Grasp the movements of the enemy in advance through the information of the staff behind enemy lines. For Su Yu and the Taiwan attacking army, it will avoid large-scale casualties as much as possible and reduce meaningless losses.
Cai Xiaoqian's rebellion has left all plans in the imagination. The inability to get the cooperation of the underground party in Taiwan Province means that there will be great attrition in the operational plan for the stage. For Su Yu, who was pursuing "ten percent certainty" at this time, such a situation was obviously unacceptable.
Why did Tsai Hsiao-qian, who held an important position, as the leader of the underground party in Taiwan Province, still obsessively choose to defect? There's actually a lot going on here.
Cai Xiaoqian and mistress
In his early years, Cai Xiaoqian has always been highly valued by party and state leaders. Turning back the clock to April 1928, Cai Xiaoqian was still a progressive youth. At that time, progressive young people from Taiwan gathered together to set up the Old Taiwan Communist Party organization in a small photo studio in the concession. At this time, Cai Xiaoqian was also specially included in the list of the first leadership team.
In the following period, Cai Xiaoqian was ordered to return to Taiwan Province to carry out revolutionary propaganda. In the past few years, Cai Xiaoqian has been arrested by the Japanese army many times due to his lack of experience in revolutionary struggle. With the help of revolutionaries, in August 1928 Cai Xiaoqian infiltrated the Zhangzhou area of Fujian Province and established contacts with the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
At the invitation of Li Wentang, Cai Xiaoqian entered the CPC Central Committee's Soviet Zone.
At this stage, Cai Xiaoqian participated in major historical events such as the land reform of the CPC Central Committee, the Long March, and the War of Resistance Against Japan.
Revolutionary opportunists
In March 1946, Cai Xiaoqian received an order under the pseudonym "Lao Zheng" to prepare to return to Taiwan for work. Because he had participated in the Long March and had also served as a civilian in the 115th Division, Cai Xiaoqian was given a very high status after returning to Taiwan.
With the help of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, in December 1949, the Cpusta had become a large underground party organization on the island, with more than 1,300 party members. In the name of the Taiwan Work Committee, Cai Xiaoqian infiltrated the organization into the internal organs of the Nationalist army. From the Military And Political Department to the Intelligence Department, there were revolutionaries everywhere in the Nationalist army at this time.
On April 6, 1949, Cai Xiaoqian saw that the time was ripe to lead the student revolutionary movement in Taipei on April 6. Subsequently, Zhong Haodong, principal of Keelung Middle School and secretary of the Keelung Working Committee of the Communist Party of China, was captured by the enemy army. Zhong Haodong was severely tortured by the enemy's secret service for three days and three nights, but he was still unwilling to say a word of betrayal of the Taiwan Communist Party organization.
Since his spirit was a little confused at this time, Zhong Haodong said something like this to gu zhengwen, the head of the secret service:
"What happened to Old Zheng?"
As soon as these words came out, they immediately aroused Gu Zhengwen's vigilance. He realized that within the Taiwan Communist Party, there was a "head" of centralized leadership, Lao Zheng. If it could be captured, it would cause heavy losses to the Communist intelligence apparatus.
Cai Xiaoqian
Subsequently, Gu Zhengwen led people to crack the branch of the Keelung Municipal Working Committee and intercepted the important information - the whereabouts of Lao Zheng. They found that Ji Yun, a teacher at Datong Middle School in Taipei, was closely related to the leader of the Taiwan Communist Party, "Lao Zheng." After learning of this, Gu Zhengwen quickly led a team to capture Ji Yun's husband Yang Chunlin (Zhang Zhizhong). Zhang Zhizhong was unyielding, and Gu Zhengwen, seeing that he could not get any favorable information, decided to shoot him.
On January 29, 1950, Cai Xiaoqian was arrested at 26 Quanzhou Street in Taipei. In the beginning, Cai Xiaoqian was able to ensure his position and not be seduced by the enemy. Through the efforts of the CPC and the Taiwan Communist Party, Cai Xiaoqian was able to smoothly escape from the enemy's special prison.
Although Cai Xiaoqian was a revolutionary, he was extremely corrupt in his style of life. He was not only greedy for money, but also embezzled funds for the activities of the Taiwan Communist Party of China on many occasions, and went in and out of high-end places to enjoy a flashy life. And he is very, not only often going to places that hurt customs, but also raising his sister-in-law Ma Wenjuan.
Gu Zhengwen grasped his weakness and quickly carried out a second arrest plan. Soon, "Old Zheng" was imprisoned again.
He was imprisoned for betraying the revolution
After re-entering the secret service prison, Cai Xiaoqian was severely tortured by the enemy special agency. After a few rounds, Cai Xiaoqian could not withstand the torture and began to show signs of wavering. Ma Wenjuan then personally entered the cell to persuade Cai Xiaoqian to surrender, and at this point, this veteran revolutionary worker who had worked for twenty years decided to defect to the enemy special organization and turn the muzzle of the gun on his own people.
With his "help," a large number of talented workers behind enemy lines who Premier Zhou painstakingly cultivated were captured by the Nationalist army secret service organization. Many patriots have also been implicated in this.
According to later statistics, at this stage, the Nationalist army murdered more than 3,000 people, arrested more than 1,800 people who had no cadres, and arbitrarily sentenced more than 8,000 people to heavy sentences. And the high-ranking agents installed in the enemy army in our country have also been captured one after another because of Cai Xiaoqian's rebellion.
Wu Shi, deputy chief of staff of the Ministry of National Defense of the Nationalist Army (the prototype of the character played by Sun Honglei in "Latent"), Lieutenant General Chen Baocang, and Nie Xi, chief of the Southeast Chief Executive's Office, were arrested one after another, and then the enemy army killed them one after another because they could not get out favorable information from them.
General Wu Shi
This incident has caused great resistance to our army's offensive operations against Taiwan. Our army was unable to obtain effective information from the rear of the enemy army for a while, and after learning that Wu Shi and others were our party's personnel behind enemy lines, the enemy army successively adjusted the deployment and deployment of troops. In the international community, the Chiang family dynasty finally looked forward to its own "great savior", and the US Seventh Fleet sailed into the Taiwan Strait according to Truman's orders.
Truman's request for the Seventh Fleet to sail into the Taiwan Strait was primarily out of concern for retaining his influence in the Far East. Previously, North Korea was divided into two countries by the United States and the Soviet Union according to the 38th line.
In fact, neither the North nor the South was satisfied with this decision. They believed that a unified peninsular state was needed. The North Korean army took the lead in attacking South Korea, and at one point went south to liberate more than 95% of the land. Truman believed that the DPRK's measures had upset the balance of the international situation and seriously infringed on their "interests" in the Far East.
Reluctant to abandon the plan
The United States immediately bypassed the Soviet Union and other socialist countries and directly held a congress at the United Nations, announcing the participation of the "United Nations Army" in the war in North Korea. In the face of the US military, the DPRK side is simply powerless to resist. Crashing north to the Yalu River, U.S. planes flew recklessly to the northeast, maliciously planning large-scale attacks in several cities.
At this time, the northeast changed from the original large rear to the front of the battlefield. The Central Military Commission unanimously believes that the current situation is extremely urgent. We can only temporarily shelve and take the stage to fight, and make every effort to prepare for war to prevent the US military from invading the northeast. He also transferred Su Yu to the northeast to complete the formation of the Northeast Border Defense Army (the predecessor of the Volunteer Army).
Su Yu's transfer from the commander of the army attacking Taiwan has actually marked a shift in China's strategic center of gravity. Taiwan's operations need to face many risks, and it is necessary for various field armies to mobilize elite troops to help. In the northeast, even the most basic defense work structure requires the same configuration to complete the task of dealing with the enemy. It is impossible for our army to carry out two battlefields at once, still less can it cope with the pressure of two-front operations at one time.
The US Seventh Fleet sailed into the Taiwan Strait, and at this time China did not have a good strategy against high-end warships such as aircraft carriers. If we insist on continuing to carry out operations into Taiwan, we will not only have to face the problem of lack of intelligence, but also face difficult problems such as the difference in scientific and technological generation.
Abandoning the operational plan does not mean that our country has given up the historic task of reunifying the motherland. Just put it on hold and wait for a better time to respond. For the Taiwan Communist Party and many other patriots, it is indeed very regrettable news that China has abandoned its operational plan to enter Taiwan.
In the years that followed, our country has been seeking to verify history through various channels and seeking the deeds of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country. After understanding that the situation was true, they were "credited with one by one" in accordance with Chairman Mao's request. "Although the honor is still on the shoulders, it has become a fact that the deceased has gone. To this day, many patriots in Taiwan still go to Taipei's Baba Town (where the martyrs were killed) to commemorate the memorial.
The time is returned to the second half of 1950, when Su Yu was seriously ill and still recuperating in Qingdao. Chairman Mao believed that there should be no rush to achieve success at this time, and asked Su Yu to continue to stay in Qingdao to cultivate. But what followed far exceeded everyone's expectations. After the U.S. army landed at Inchon, it was unstoppable all the way north. The northeast is in danger, but Su Yu's health has never improved. Considering the urgency of the war, Su Yu suggested to the CPC Central Committee:
"Take the job with a better fit."
Peng Dehuai and Chairman Mao
Chairman Mao and the Central Military Commission have discussed many times and decided to set peng Dehuai as the first choice for going out to fight in the DPRK. Mr. Peng always had abundant combat experience in large corps, and was also famous at home and abroad for fighting hard battles and resisting strong enemies in the northwest and the Red Army period. Although the personality is strong and courageous, it is very suitable to be a general of one side.
At the invitation of Chairman Mao, Mr. Peng went to the northeast and quickly completed the work of reorganizing the volunteer army of the northeast border defense army. This time, our army is about to face another unprecedented historical challenge...
