During a war during the Northern Expedition and the Yuan Dynasty, Xu Da deliberately chose blue jade as his vanguard. At that time, people believed that Xu Da only did this because Lan Yu was Chang Yuchun's wife and brother, because Chang Yuchun often served as Xu Da's vanguard official before his death, and the relationship between the two was relatively good. In this battle, there were more than 3,000 Yuan Dynasty officials and subordinates captured, not to mention others. After Zhu Yuanzhang learned the news, he was even happier to compare Lan Yu to his famous generals such as "Wei Qing" and "Li Jing", and made him the Duke of Liangguo.

All these things laid the groundwork for Zhu Yuanzhang's final execution.
In the twenty-sixth year of Hongwu (1393), Lan Yu was accused of rebellion by jinyiwei. Whether it was a fact or not, or whether Blue Jade might have such an intention, Zhu Yuanzhang could not bear it. Zhu Yuanzhang, after ascending the throne and becoming emperor, had a very strong desire to control power and was also very sensitive, otherwise he would not have directly abolished the beggar system. Coupled with the actions of Blue Jade that we just mentioned, Zhu Yuanzhang directly arrested Blue Jade and sent him to prison, and then peeled the skin and grass, implicating and handling tens of thousands of people involved.
