In 1924, Ye Jiaying was born in Beijing into a family of scholars, a descendant of the Yehenara clan. In the middle of the last century, Ye Jiaying taught at National Taiwan University, Fu Jen University, and Tamkang University.

In 1969 she moved to Vancouver, Canada, where she was appointed tenured professor at the University of British Columbia.

In 1978, hearing that China had resumed the college entrance examination, Ye Jiaying, who had been teaching in Canada for many years, applied to the Chinese government to return to China. A year later, she received a letter from the Chinese Ministry of Education approving her return to China to teach, arranging for her to go to Peking University to teach first, and soon after, at the invitation of Mr. Li Jiye, she went to Nankai.

Since 1979, she has used her vacation to return to China to lecture every year. In 2013, due to his old age, he could no longer travel across the ocean, and decided to officially return to China and settle in Nankai.
