Liu Huibin is a native of Zezhou, Jincheng City, Shanxi. He is a master of traditional Chinese arts and crafts, a member of the Chinese Folk Arts and Crafts Artists Association, a member of the Shanxi Provincial Artists and Sculptors Association, and the inheritor of the provincial intangible cultural heritage protection project "Jincheng Traditional Painted Sculpture".
The painted clay sculptures preserved in many temples in Jincheng have high artistic value. Jueshan Qinglian Temple, preserving the Tang and Song Dynasty painted clay sculptures, is extremely accomplished. In the Jade Emperor Temple in the capital city of Zezhou County, the existing "Twenty-Eight Stars" painted sculpture is a treasure in the Taoist painted sculpture of the Yuan Dynasty in China. Liu Huibin, the inheritor of traditional clay sculptures, has created a series of painted sculptures with regional characteristics under the thick cultural accumulation.
When it comes to the production of color sculptures, Liu Huibin is naturally the most professional. First of all, according to the design of the drawing, the bone is erected, also known as the shelf. That is, along the entire structure to stand out the bones. For the stability of the statue, the shelf should be buried deep into the base, and the positions of the head, shoulders, chest and waist should be nailed according to the proportions.
After the skeleton is made, it is wrapped with straw rope, wheat straw, grain poles, etc. and tied to the wooden skeleton that has been made, and tied into a large human form. The qualified completion of this step can lay the foundation for the subsequent process.
For a perfect clay sculpture, the upper mud molding is crucial. The mud used by Liu Huibin is a local white mud with uniform particles and strong standing. Generally divided into three steps, each step of the mud used is different, respectively, "coarse mud", "large mud", "fine mud", so as to meet the process requirements, followed by a long period of shade drying, so that it is dried thoroughly, so that a basic clay sculpture product is completed.
Of course, if you want to do a good job of color sculpture, you need more than this, copying paddle paint, wrapping linen, painting ash, polishing, paste powder, asphalt powder, loading gold, painting...
