A loyal martyr among eunuchs

When it comes to eunuchs, most people are not impressed. But just as there are haojie among women, there is no shortage of eunuchs in history who are strong and loyal. Today, Yujun will give two examples.

The eastern Han, Tang and Ming dynasties in ancient China were known for their eunuch dictatorship. But familiar people such as Wei Zhongxian and Li Lianying were not in the discussion. Another person is known to set off others. This is Colliers.

Although Gao Lishi was a eunuch, but his birth is not high, his real name is Feng Yuanyi, his ancestor was the Northern Yan royal family Feng clan during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, and later the Northern Wei unified the north, his ancestors did not want to surrender, went south to the south, and became a local Hao chief. His grandmother was Lady Sin, the leader of Baiyue, whom Premier Zhou called "the first hero of China's scarf heroes." His father was a former Assassin of Panzhou, his mother was the great-granddaughter of the famous Sui Dynasty general Mai Tiejian, and his name was Zhang Jiuling, a distant relative. Because his father was convicted of raiding the family, Feng Yuanyi was sent to the palace, and Wu Zetian ordered the eunuch Gao Yanfu of the Inner Province to adopt him as an adopted son, so he changed his name to Gao Lishi. Gao Lishi befriended Li Longji when he was still a prince and became his confidant. Later, the Tang Long coup d'état and the innate change of the Xuanzong Dynasty, which came to the throne of Li Longji, had great merits in neutrality, gained more trust and respect, and became a knight, and began to grasp the power of forbidden military. During the Tianbao years, Gao Lishi repeatedly reminded Tang Xuanzong to avoid slacking off the government, opposed Tang Xuanzong's false government to Li Linfu and Yang Guozhong, and clearly foresaw the hidden dangers of An Lushan's imminent rebellion, but unfortunately Xuanzong did not follow the good. At the same time, Colliers has excellent administrative skills. In the last year of the new century, Gao Lishi could even review the chapter first, and the small matters were handled by him, and the major matters were handed over to Xuanzong for adjudication, and Xuanzong even said that "Lux is on the top, and I sleep steadily." At that time, even Li Linfu and Yang Guozhong were vying to woo GaoLishi, and the princesses of the kings called Gaolishi Ah Weng, and even the crown prince Li Heng called him a second brother, and the horses all called him Grandpa. Therefore, many historians in later generations believe that Li Bai's "Lux taking off his boots" allusion cannot withstand scrutiny - at that time, Gaolishi had reached such a powerful position, as Li Bai, who was extravagant and dashing on the outside and extremely restrained on the inside, did not have the courage to let GaoLishi take off his shoes. Li Bai is arrogant on the surface, but in fact he is very aware of his identity and situation. "The Son of Heaven is not on the ship" is only Du Fu's exaggeration of it, while "An Neng can destroy the eyebrows and bend the waist of the magnate" reflects his self-venting after being suppressed, and the real test is that Li Bai does not dare to be a little sloppy.

Born in the prosperous world, Colliers's assets are richer than those of princes, although the treasury is not reachable. Folklore has it that he built a Buddhist temple in Chang'an to cast bells, feasted on hundreds of officials and nobles, rich merchants and rich people, stipulated that a bell must be paid 100,000 yuan at a time, and the princes and nobles tried their best to flatter, "There are those who are pleased to twenty buckles, and the few are not reduced by ten." This was the beginning of the Tang Dynasty eunuchs' intervention in politics, but Gao Lishi was not as exclusive as the eunuchs in the later period, only usurped power. The one who really began to monopolize power was another eunuch, Li Fuguo, who he had cultivated with his own hands. Li Fuguo looks ugly, but has hidden intentions. After the Anshi Rebellion, Emperor Xuanzong of Tang encountered a mutiny at Ma Songyi, and the rebels killed Yang Guozhong and named Yang Yuhuan, the red-faced disaster water Yang Yuhuan. Tang Xuanzong was embarrassed, and in the end, it was Gao Lishi who took advantage of the stakes, and let Xuanzong endure the pain of cutting love before ending the turmoil. However, at this time, Li Fuguo, who was serving the crown prince, took advantage of Emperor Xuanzong's prestige to instigate the prince to part ways with the emperor, and eventually Li Heng took the throne as Emperor Suzong of Tang at Lingwu. After the Anshi Rebellion subsided, Li Longji, who was already emperor of taishang, returned to Chang'an and was immediately placed under house arrest. A dynasty of heavenly sons and courtiers, the new emperor reigned, Li Fuguo was in charge, and Li Longji only had a share of lamentations. Tang Xuanzong, who was scattered in the trees, was accompanied only by Gao Lishi. Once Xuanzong was found looking out the window of the Xingqing Palace (Xingqing Palace was the old residence of Li Longji before he ascended the throne, adjacent to the street market), and suddenly everyone knelt down, the mountain shouted long live, and Xuanzong was moved to tears. When the news reached the palace, Li Fuguo saw this as a sign of Xuanzong's conspiracy to restore, so he suggested that Emperor Suzong move his father, who had always had no relationship with him, to the Taiji Palace, which was closer to the palace, for surveillance. When helping Xuanzong move, Li Fuguo led a group of Yulin Army soldiers to dangle in front of Xuanzong with weapons, frightening Emperor Tang Ming, who was already old, and fell off his horse. When Gao Lishi saw the situation, he went up to severely reprimand him, and Li Fuguo drew his sword and stabbed one of Gao Lishi's entourage to death, but he did not expect that Gao Lishi's face did not change color, and shouted at the Yulin Army, "The Emperor Taishang asked all the generals to be well!" The crowd fell to their knees. Then he shouted, "Li Fuguo came over to lead the horse to the Emperor Taishang!" Li Fuguo was completely suppressed, and trembled and came down with Gao Lishi to lead a horse for Tang Xuanzong. Afterwards, Tang Xuanzong said to Gao Lishi that if it were not for you and me, I would have died this time (either scared to death or killed).

Later, after Repeated Rumors by Li Fuguo, Emperor Suzong exiled Gao Lishi to the south. Goris waited in exile to return to serve Xuanzong. Unexpectedly, although he was pardoned in the end, he received the news of Xuanzong's death, and GaoLishi cried bitterly to the north, went on a hunger strike for seven days, and vomited blood and died. Finally buried next to Xuanzong's Tomb, it is the only funerary tomb of Tang Xuanzong. Therefore, later generations ridiculed Tang Xuanzong's true love throughout his life was not Wu Huifei, nor Yang Yuhuan, but Gao Lishi.

Of course, Li Fuguo will not have a good ending. Only thirteen days after Xuanzong's death, Emperor Suzong also died. Li Fuguo supported the crown prince to ascend to the throne as Emperor Daizong, but he went so far as to say to Emperor Daizong, "Everyone (the emperor) sits inside, and foreign affairs are handled by the old slaves." Not willing to be a puppet, Emperor Daizong joined forces with another eunuch, Cheng Yuanzhen, to set up Li Fuguo and assassinate him on the night of the black wind in a month, beheading and cutting off his arm, and throwing him in the toilet. Gift taifu, nicknamed "ugly".

A loyal martyr among eunuchs

Coincidentally. During the Ming Dynasty, there was also a eunuch who was loyal to the emperor, that is, Wang Cheng'en, the grand eunuch of the Chongzhen Emperor.

Wang Cheng'en entered the palace during the Wanli Dynasty and was a subordinate of Cao Huachun. He had been serving Zhu Youjian, the Prince of Faith, and was also a member of the Wei Zhongxian clique. When Wei Zhongxian plotted to usurp the throne, Wang Cheng'en explicitly kept his distance from him. In the end, Wei Zhongxian had to accept Zhu Youjian's ascension to the throne, that is, the Chongzhen Emperor. After the Chongzhen Emperor ascended the throne, he immediately eliminated the Wei Zhongxian clique, and Wang Cheng'en cooperated hard in the process, winning the emperor's heart and becoming a eunuch with great power. For more than a decade, Wang Cheng'en worked diligently to share the worries of the Chongzhen Emperor and help him struggle to maintain the crumbling Daming River. Some officials felt that he was too powerful, such as Hubu Shangshu Zhou Yanru once told the Chongzhen Emperor that Wang Cheng'en was another Wei Zhongxian. Although Si zong, who loved jealousy, thought it was reasonable and once wanted to kill Wang Cheng'en, he finally softened his heart. At the time of the Jiashen Rebellion, Li Zicheng besieged Beijing, and the Chongzhen Emperor rebelled, but Wang Cheng'en still tried his best to protect the lord, and he "hurriedly shelled it and killed several people in a row" when he was in charge of the Beijing camp. The Chongzhen Emperor saw that the building was about to fall, and hanged himself on the old locust tree of coal mountain, and there was only Wang Cheng'en by his side. Wang Cheng'en also hanged himself on the begonia tree next to him and accompanied him to the end.

Wang Cheng'en's loyal and righteous deeds moved the world, so that when the Shunzhi Emperor learned of his deeds, he personally ordered his burial and wrote a tombstone, and the Southern Ming Hongguang Emperor gave him the title of Zhongzhen. The Kangxi Emperor also established a biography for him. Regarding Wang Cheng'en's kindness to the Chongzhen Emperor, two other things can be seen.

One day, the Chongzhen Emperor, who was still the king of the domain, fell into the pool of the palace. Because of the depth of the water, the Chongzhen Emperor could not swim, so he could only struggle after falling into it. Soon a large number of eunuchs found the Chongzhen Emperor who had fallen into the water. One by one, they shouted loudly, but none of them jumped into the water savior. But Wang Cheng'en came and directly plunged into the water with a fierce son. Then he suddenly realized that he couldn't swim either, so he also struggled in the water. Soon, a group of swimmers rushed over to rescue Emperor Chongzhen and Wang Cheng'en. Many people laughed at Wang Cheng'en for being stupid, but the Chongzhen Emperor looked at him with disdain from then on.

There is also an anecdote in the Ming Dynasty North. When the Chongzhen Emperor slept, he dreamed of a god many times, and the word "yes" was written on his palm, and the Chongzhen Emperor felt strange and asked the minister of the court what it meant, and everyone congratulated him that it was a sign of thief peace, but Wang Cheng'en cried. When the Chongzhen Emperor asked why, Wang Cheng'en said, "The emperor pardoned me and did not die before I dared to say so." The Chongzhen Emperor agreed. At this time, Wang Cheng'en said, "I think the Immortals are telling the Emperor that Daming's Jiangshan will lose most of it." The emperor rebuked him, and he prostrated his head and continued: "The word 'have' is a 'big' word, but it is missing a stroke; the second half is a 'ming' word, but it is missing a day." Taken together, big is not big, and ming is not clear, which is probably the meaning that Daming is going to have some defects. The Emperor thinks twice! When the Chongzhen Emperor heard this, he had an epiphany. This incident can not only show that Wang Cheng'en is a smart, alert and insightful person, but also his spirit of distress and his good intentions for state affairs. In the end, he became the only eunuch to accompany the ming tombs, and enjoyed the mourning glory after his death.
