In 1905, Xiao was born in a small village in Xingtai, Hebei Province, and his family lived by growing some grain in the land of the rented landlord, and there was little left to pay the rent all year round, and his life was very hard. After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in 1937, at the age of 32, he joined the revolution under the influence of his two older brothers and became a guerrilla, and then reorganized into the Eighth Route Army.
Serving the country is not afraid of being late, and killing the enemy is not afraid of being late. Although he became a soldier late, it was not too late to kill the enemy and make meritorious contributions, and the late enlistment in the army did not mean that he was less dedicated. From the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression to the War of Liberation, Xiao's predecessors participated in nearly a hundred large and medium-sized wars, made outstanding military achievements, and received many badges and honors. Unfortunately, his family died during the war years, and he was not able to see so many achievements for the country.
In the early days of the War of Resistance Against Japan, because of the bloody massacre of the Japanese army, Xiao's parents and sisters died tragically. His brother and second brother, although they joined him in the guerrillas, were killed. Therefore, Xiao Wanshi and the Japanese devils have a deep hatred. In the Changle War of 1938, the Japanese army carried out a large-scale encirclement and annihilation of our army's garrison. Because the conditions were relatively limited, although the doctors did their best, the shrapnel of Xiao Wanshi's body had not been removed. Until his death, his relatives saw two pieces of shrapnel in his ashes.
Another time, in the Xiangtangpu War, the vanguard troops led by Xiao Wanshi miscalculated the total number of Japanese troops, believing that it was a small group, and the result was a squadron, resulting in heavy casualties in the troops. Good people deserve long lives. Born in 1905, Xiao Wanshi passed away in 2009 and lived for 104 years!
