In the history books, the first appearance of the Xiongnu was in 318 BC, when the Central Plains was the Warring States period of the Seven Heroes, and around 209 BC, the Xiongnu established their own dynasty, which was a primitive dynasty of slavery.
After this dynasty lasted for three hundred years, the Xiongnu re-entered a scattered tribal state, and then continued to interfere with the Central Plains for more than two hundred years, until the end of the Southern and Northern Dynasties, when the Xiongnu disappeared from Chinese history.
Historically, there are many different ethnic groups of nomadic peoples north of the Central Plains, and they may compete with each other or ally with each other, but they all have a common feature, that is, whenever they are not comfortable in the north, they will fight the idea of the Central Plains, so for a long time, the two words of the Xiongnu are the nightmares of the Han people.
Generally speaking, we think that "Xiongnu" is the name of a plateau nomadic people, but in fact, the Xiongnu are not a specific ethnic group, and some historians believe that the Xiongnu were actually composed of multiple steppe nomadic tribes or ethnic groups at that time, rather than a single ethnic group.
The composition of the Huns, both Mongols and Caucasian Caucasians, and even yellow people similar to those in the Central Plains, the remains of the Huns unearthed by archaeologists in the Mongolian region also confirm that the "Xiongnu" in the history books is a multi-ethnic mixture.
It is precisely because the Xiongnu are a federation of many different tribes and different races, so the Xiongnu is not a very cohesive organization, and his structure is very loose, basically that is, when everyone goes to the Central Plains to grab benefits, the goal is the same, and then everyone is temporarily twisted into a rope, after the end of the matter, everyone may often fight in the nest.
Therefore, by the time of Emperor Xuan of Han, the Xiongnu were seriously divided, and there was a situation of "five singles in contention", and then in the Eastern Han Dynasty, the Xiongnu simply divided into two and split into two mutually hostile northern and southern Xiongnu, and the Southern Xiongnu bowed to Liu Xiu, the Emperor of Han Guangwu, and settled in the Hetao area, which is now Part of inner Mongolia and parts along the Yellow River in Ningxia.
Dou Xian broke the Xiongnu
After the Southern Xiongnu were stable, the Northern Xiongnu were still very fierce, until 89 AD, when Dou Xian broke the Northern Xiongnu, the Northern Xiongnu gradually began to disappear, and since then the Eastern Han Dynasty has pursued the Northern Xiongnu, forcing them to continue to move west, and then they can no longer pose any threat to the Central Plains.
Then the Southern Xiongnu who remained in the Hetao area, although relatively stable, often had some internal contradictions, and in this process, the Xiongnu continued to integrate with the Central Plains culture, and developed to the later, the history books recorded that at that time, "the population of Guanzhong was more than one million, the Rong Di was half, and the Han and Huns lived together."
The wuhu chaohua in history is the last glory of the Xiongnu, and the Xiongnu at this time have been mixed with various ethnic groups, and the result of this fusion and evolution is naturally the most han situation.
Historical records record that the mainstream surnames of the Xiongnu at that time were mainly the following six, namely: Huyan, Liu, Qiao, Bu, Jin and Cao, so if the above six surnames are traced back to their ancestral origins in the ancient Hetao region, they are likely to be descendants of the Xiongnu.
