[CNMO News] Rumors that Apple is developing an OLED iPad have been circulating for years. According to a latest report from The Elec, Apple and Samsung are working to bring OLED displays into their 2024 iPad lineups.
The two companies worked together last year to develop a 10.86-inch OLED screen for the iPad, but the partnership ended in the third quarter. At the time, Samsung was unable to meet some of Apple's technical requirements at a viable price. Specifically, Apple "wanted a panel with a two-layer tandem structure — it had two emission layers — rather than the traditional single-layer structure." ”
Apparently, the two companies are still in talks now, and Samsung is trying to secure orders large enough to achieve economies of scale. With enough quantities, the electronics maker wants to avoid the financial factors that led to the failure of the deal last year. If the two companies reach an agreement, The Elec predicts that Samsung will deliver OLED in 2023, catching up with Apple's inclusion of it in the 2024 iPad model, making the iPad's display comparable to that of the iPhone.

OLED displays can provide a better experience than LCD because each pixel has its own illumination and does not rely on backlighting. This allows OLED to display true black and reduces the luminous halo effects experienced by many LCDs. Fine-tuning control of illuminated pixels can also improve power efficiency and battery life. In addition, OLED often produces more vivid colors than LCDs.
