During the Three Kingdoms period, heroes emerged. And the most outstanding military general among them, personally, believes that it is none other than Guan Yu. As the head of the Five Tiger Generals under the Shu Han Dynasty, he held the Green Dragon Crescent Moon Sword and stepped on a BMW, and began his journey as a warrior in the Three Kingdoms. Although Guan Yu is good at martial arts, he has a character flaw, that is, he is somewhat arrogant and arrogant.
In the rendition, it is also mentioned that Guan Yu has always been a respectful scribe and disrespectful to a warrior. However, Guan Yu did not pay attention to all the martial generals, he once commented on Zhang Fei and Zhao Yun, saying that their abilities were not weaker than their own.

In addition, Guan Yu also praised a cao wei general, saying that his martial arts were not under Zhang Fei, and this person was Zhang Liao. Whether it is Yanyi or Zhengshi, Zhang Liao has a good position in Cao Wei. Not to mention his ability to fight hard to one of Cao Wei's five sons, cao cao's attention to it alone is probably enough to show that Zhang Liao is by no means an idle person.
But what is Zhang Liao's martial arts? If it is true that according to Guan Yu's words, martial arts are not as good as Zhang Fei, why can't they fight Wen Ugly? The following are my personal views.
First, analyze Zhang Liao's record and strength.
Zhang Liao, ZiWenyuan, Yanmen Mayi people. In his early years, Zhang Liao did not defect to Cao Cao, but instead wandered between the forces of the crowd, and later submitted to Cao Cao after Cao Cao captured Lü Bu, becoming a weapon of Cao Wei. According to the Romance of the Three Kingdoms:
From the conquest of Yuan Shangyu in Liucheng, the liao persuaded Taizu to fight, and taizu was very strong, and he thought that he was holding the Liao. Strike, break it, and chop it up.
It can be seen that Zhang Liao's military command ability is strong, as well as the courage of his personal force.
After he made this contribution, he immediately went to quell the rebellion of Liu Yi, Huainan Meicheng, Chen Lan and others in Liaodong Province. In 215 AD, Zhang Liao really began his rise. After Cao Cao took Hanzhong, he wanted to go south to sweep Xichuan. Sun Quan, on the other hand, took advantage of Cao Wei's army to move to the Hanzhong battlefield on the western front, and led an army of 100,000 to attack Hefei, in a vain attempt to take advantage of the opportunity to annex Hefei. What did Zhang Liao do at this critical moment? He fully demonstrated what it meant to be "outside, and military orders are not subject to it." "
Contrary to Cao Cao's wishes, he did not wait for Sun Quan to attack the city. Instead, it was decided to take advantage of the fact that the Eastern Wu camp was not stable and attack the Wu army. So Zhang Liao selected eight hundred soldiers and attacked the enemy camp at night. He frightened Sun Quan into hiding in the hills and did not dare to fight. Such a move greatly boosted the morale of the army, resulting in Sun Quan's continuous siege of the city for more than ten days and could not be captured. At the time when he wanted to withdraw his troops, Zhang Liao took advantage of the victory to pursue, killing Chen Wu, one of the twelve tiger ministers of Jiangbiao, and almost captured Sun Quan alive, and in this battle, Zhang Liao could be described as a mighty zhen Xiaoyaojin.
Second, analyze why Guan Yu said this.
As mentioned above, Zhang Liao's martial arts are indeed extraordinary. But in what circumstances did Guan Yu say that Zhang Liao's martial arts were not under Zhang Fei? This is to find the answer from the interpretation. According to the Eighteenth Chronicle of the Three Kingdoms:
Zhang Liao led troops to attack Ximen. Yun Chang said in the city: "The public appearance is not vulgar, why did you lose yourself to a thief?" Zhang Liao bowed his head and said nothing. Yun Chang knew that this person had the spirit of loyalty and righteousness, and he did not add up with evil words, nor did he go to war.
It is clear here that Guan Yu is clear about Zhang Liao's character and personality. Next, there was a situation in which Zhang Liao and Zhang Fei fought. The Interpretation records:
Liao led his troops to retreat to the East Gate, and Zhang Fei went out to meet the battle. Someone had already reported that Guan Gong had been informed. When Guan Gong rushed to the East Gate to see, he saw that Zhang Feifang was out of the city and Zhang Liaojun had retreated. Flying to catch up, Guan Gong hurriedly summoned into the city. Fei Yue: "He is afraid and retreats, why not chase after him." Guan Gongyue: "This person's martial arts are not under you and me." Because I feel righteous and have a lot of remorse, I will not wait with me.
Therefore, from the yanyi record, it is not difficult for us to see that the reason why Guan Yu said that Zhang Liao's martial arts were not under Zhang Fei always carried a bit of the meaning of tricking Zhang Fei. If Zhang Fei did not oppose Zhang Liao, perhaps Zhang Liao would be able to reform himself and abandon the dark and turn to the light? What's more, Guan Yu himself was also an extremely affectionate and righteous person, and he felt that Zhang Liao was the same, and naturally he couldn't bear to fight zhang Fei, and finally ended up in a situation where he was killed or both defeated. Therefore, when this sentence is said, it is not exactly an affirmation of Zhang Liao's martial arts. And even if Zhang Liao's martial arts are indeed good, they may not be comparable to Zhang Fei.
Third, analyze the scene of Zhang Liao's confrontation with Wen Ugly.
As mentioned above, Zhang Liao's martial arts are extraordinary, but why did he lose to Wen Ugly? Among them, there are many reasons why Wen Ugly is not idle, after all, he can become a martial general who is one of the four court pillars in Hebei, how can he be an embroidered pillow? But the reason why Wen Ugly was able to defeat Zhang Liao was that I personally thought it was a bit of a coincidence.
At that time, Wen Ugly fought against Xu Huang and Zhang Liao's second general, and Wen Ugly shot an arrow at Zhang Liao's helmet, followed by shooting down Zhang Liao's war horse. These two arrows were the reason for Zhang Liao's great defeat.
An arrow hit the helmet, causing Zhang Liao's heart to be in turmoil, and he lost his mentality of fighting. And another arrow hit the war horse, Zhang Liao can be said to have lost the opportunity to fight, he was not defeated, who lost? At that time, xu Huang intervened and saved Zhang Liao, and Zhang Liaocai was not killed by Wen Ugly. It can be seen that Zhang Liao's martial arts are extraordinary, but he is not necessarily Zhang Fei's opponent. As for its defeat to Wen Ugly, I personally believe that Wen Ugly is also a coincidence.
What do you think of Zhang Liao?
