According to the book, the original Pokémon program allowed players not to collect badges, but to represent the trainer's rank through a colored waistband similar to martial arts. At the same time, these belts can also be used as a Pokémon whip for trainers at some point.

In the end, GF's team decided they wanted the trainer to have a closer and "friendlier" connection with Pokémon, just like pets, so the idea was eliminated and badges were used instead.

Although the idea of a belt was not realized, the whip still appeared in the original Pokémon. In the final version of the game, although the protagonist does not carry it, the other Pokémon trainers still carry whips.
