The 113rd Division finally completed the task of "piercing the pockets", and the soldiers thought that they could breathe a little relief before the big battle came, so that the already exhausted body, especially the legs, could temporarily rest.
However, at this moment, liang Xingchu, commander of the Thirty-eighth Army, was studying the surrounding maps when he suddenly found that just northwest of Sanshouli, there was a small market town called "Longyuanli", where there was a road leading to the Shunchuan area, and it was entirely possible that the enemy would escape south by way!
The situation is extremely urgent and action must be taken quickly! However, at this time, it was too late to ask for instructions from the headquarters of the Volunteer Army, and Liang Xingchu immediately made a decision and issued an urgent order to the 337th Regiment of the 113rd Division: Immediately set off in full gear and advance to Longyuanli at full speed, and the people must rush ahead of the enemy to reach Longyuanli and cut off the enemy's way!
The 337th Regiment did not live up to expectations, and they finally arrived at Longyuanli at 4 a.m. on November 29, about ten minutes ahead of the enemy.
They "guarded the rabbits", and the enemy's vanguard small force was quickly annihilated by the commanders and fighters of the 337th Regiment, and the opening in Longyuan was also firmly tightened by the 337th Regiment. At this point, the US Second Division, the Twenty-fifth Division, the Turkish Brigade, and the 1st Division of the Li Puppet Army all became turtles in an urn and fell into the division and encirclement of the volunteer army.
The defensive positions in Longyuanli were divided into two wings, the left wing position was not only the enemy's main direction of attack, but also the necessary place for the enemy to flee south, which was held by the first and third battalions of the 337th Regiment; the right position was used as a support position, led by the regimental organs to hold on, and at the same time shouldered the mission of serving as the reserve of the whole regiment.
After the Longyuanli blockade battle was officially launched, the company of the US Second Division launched more than ten group charges against the left wing position of the 337th Regiment, but all of them were repelled by the commanders and fighters of the 337th Regiment. At this time, the enemy's reinforcements also came from the north, attacking the other side of the left flank of the position from the 337th Regiment with all their might, in order to meet the enemy fleeing south. Although the enemy forces in the north and south were only less than one kilometer apart, under the stubborn resistance of the 337th Regiment, they never converged in one place. The enemy was also very cunning, seeing that the left wing position was difficult to break through, so they resorted to a trick - on the one hand, they left some troops to continue to contain the left wing, on the other hand, they launched a crazy attack on the right wing position, and used armored vehicles and tanks to make a strong impact, in a vain attempt to open a gap from here and rush out of the "pocket array".
At once, the pressure all came to the right wing position held by the second battalion of the 337th Regiment, and it is conceivable that the situation at that time was extremely severe. The commander of the second battalion was an officer from a student background, with profound theoretical knowledge, but his actual combat experience was relatively lacking, and he seemed a little overwhelmed in the face of such extremely complex emergencies.
At this extremely critical moment, some of the personnel of the regimental organs who followed the Second Battalion to the right wing position stepped forward, and he was Wang Shurui, director of the political office of the 337th Regiment.
On the one hand, he ordered the commander of the training unit to organize all the personnel of the organs participating in the battle and quickly put them into battle, and the second battalion immediately added quite a few fresh troops; on the other hand, he helped the commander of the second battalion to stabilize his mood, clarify his thinking, and assist him in commanding the battle.
Under the joint command of Wang Shurui and the commander of the second battalion, the volunteer officers and men made full use of the terrain and features on the right wing positions to destroy many of the enemy's tanks and armored vehicles with grenades, explosive canisters, and other weapons, causing great damage to the enemy.
After stabilizing the situation, the soldiers fought with the enemy and repelled three consecutive attacks of the enemy, so that the besieged enemy always broke through the blockade line of the volunteer army, and contributed to the successful victory of the second campaign.
