Zhao Junjie: Archaeological leader of the Changbai Mountain Temple Site
In 2021, it was included in the "14th Five-Year Plan for the Protection and Utilization of Large Sites" of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage;
In 2019, it was announced by the State Council as the eighth batch of national key cultural relics protection units;
In 2017, it was selected as one of the top ten new archaeological discoveries in The Country of the Year.
This is the ruins of the Changbai Mountain Temple.
According to historical records, In the twelfth year of Dading (1172), Jin Shizong crowned Changbai Mountain as the "King of Xingguo Lingying" and built a temple in the north of the mountain to enshrine An. As the site of the temple built by the Jin Dynasty royal family to sacrifice Changbai Mountain, the changbai mountain temple site is the first national mountain festival relic found outside the Central Plains, which is of great value for exploring the development of the ceremonial system of the Jin Dynasty.
And this excavation story should start from "BMW City".
On a hilly hill 4 kilometers northwest of Baihe Town, Antu Erdao, Jilin Province, there is a small ancient site. According to local legend, when the Tang Dynasty general Liu Ren railed in the East, he once won a BMW here, which gave it the name "BMW City".
In August 2013, Zhao Junjie, a young teacher who specializes in archaeology in the historical period of Jilin University, led a team to the "BMW City Ruins" and began a journey of discovery. After preliminary investigation and judgment, the founding date and the main body of the "BMW City" are both in the Jin Dynasty.
On September 5, 2016, the archaeological team worked on the site as usual, and a fragment of a cross-sectional white jade jade book attracted the attention of the members of the archaeological team. The word "decoction" is clearly engraved on it, which happens to be the year in which the history records record that in the fourth year (1193) of Emperor Mingchang of Jin Zhangzong, Changbai Mountain was crowned as the "Kaitianhong Holy Emperor". This discovery confirmed the judgment of the archaeological team that year.
In 2017, the "BMW City Ruins" were officially named "Changbai Mountain Temple Ruins". This is an important discovery of Liaojin archaeology in recent years, and also a major breakthrough in frontier archaeology and northern ethnic archaeology, which provides valuable information for the study of material culture and Jin Dynasty official architecture in the Song and Jin Dynasties, and is also of great significance for studying the frontier economic strategy of the Jin Dynasty and exploring the formation and development of China's unified multi-ethnic state, and will also have a positive and far-reaching impact on enriching the connotation of the long history and culture of Changbai Mountain.
Today, Zhao Junjie and experts from all walks of life are reconstructing the appearance of the temple building based on archaeological remains, relevant documents and physical materials. As archaeological research advances, more historical information will be revealed in the majestic forest sea.
