Chen Zhuo is a mysterious figure in Chinese history, known as "Chen Zhuo Laozu". Folk say that Chen Zhuo rarely talks about his Taoist scholars, but mostly about things that he can pinch and calculate and see fortune telling, and Chen Zhuo seems to be a "living immortal" in the hearts of the common people.

Lived 118 years! Who is Chen Zhuo, who is Chen Zhuo, known as the "Old Ancestor of Chen Zhuo"?

However, no matter how capable Chen Zhuo is, he is also a man who is not a god. Born at the end of the Tang Dynasty, he spanned the three periods of the Tang Dynasty, the Five Dynasties and the Northern Song Dynasty, and was a famous Taoist scholar, who studied Huang Laozhi very deeply and was also a health expert, living for 118 years. Regarding his birthplace, there are different theories, some say Henan, some say Anhui, and some say that he was born in today's Chongqing territory, anyway, as long as he touches the edge, he will drag himself to his own, after all, such a "living immortal" is still very promotive of the development of the tourism and cultural industry.

In reality, Chen Zhuo is not a god who understands everything. He was not very good at the Eight Strands article, and in the five generations after the Tang Dynasty, he took a jinshi examination, and the result was sun mountain, and since then he has lived in seclusion in the mountains and forests, and has successively devoted himself to learning in Wudang Mountain, Huashan Mountain, Shaohua Mountain and other places, and no longer asks about the official affairs of Shitu. Even if he later became famous in the world, the emperors of the Later Zhou and Northern Song Dynasties invited him to come out as an official, and he resolutely resigned, concentrating on studying his Huang Laozhi and Taiji techniques. Admiring his moral learning, Emperor Chai Rong of the Later Zhou Dynasty gave him the title of "Mr. Baiyun", and Emperor Taizong of the Northern Song Dynasty, Zhao Guangyi, called him "Mr. Xiyi".

Chen Xuan was in the early days of the great confluence of Confucianism and Taoism in his lifetime, and he was involved in the study of the three schools of learning, and "all of them could explore the essentials", and he was a master and master of the three religions. Based on the doctrine of Lao Tzu and the taoist Yi Xue, he combined the order and regularity of the changes in the Zhou Yi with the idea of natural inaction expounded by Lao Tzu, and systematically constructed a theoretical system of character generation and cultivation. His major works include "Finger Xuan Chapter", "Guan Kong Chapter", "Mai Daoist Zheng Yi Xin Fa Notes", "Yi Long Tu Sequence", "Taiji Yin and Yang Theory", "Tai Chi Tu" and so on. Because of its age, many of the books circulating now are based on Chen Xuan's name, not necessarily his real works.

Although Chen Zhuo is known as a "living immortal" in the folk, judging from the relevant records of the history, he is a very pragmatic and low-key person. In 956, Later Zhou Shizong Chai Rong took Chen Zhuo to live in the imperial palace for more than a month, during which time he asked Chen Zhuo about the spell of lighting gold and silver. Chen Zhuo said that he did not have such a spell, and advised Chai Rong "to be committed to governing the country" and not to pay attention to these so-called yellow and white techniques. In 984, Chen Zhuo went to the court of the Northern Song Dynasty to meet, and Emperor Zhao Guangyi sent his ministers to ask him whether he had the art of immortality, and Chen Zhuo replied very calmly, I am a mountain hermit, and I do not have the skills of those immortals who have been passed down by others to refine Dan and cultivate health. I hope that you will assist the emperor in promoting the advantages and eliminating the disadvantages, so as to make the world peaceful.

The above-mentioned Chen Zhuo these things, there is no mysterious color, the author thinks it is more reliable, but not many people are interested. Chen Zhuo's most talked about is his mythological stories, and even there are some bizarre records in the main history. For example, the "History of Song" has a record: when Chen Zhuo was four or five years old, playing on the bank of the river, there was an old woman in green clothes who fed him milk, and after drinking this milk, Chen Zhuo became more and more intelligent. When he grew up, he read through the scriptures and could recite them once, never forgetting them at all. It seemed that this old woman was an immortal, and she still had milk at a great age, and the milk must still be rich in wisdom factors, which made Chen Zhuo extremely intelligent.

Legend has it that Chen Zhuo was able to clear the valley for a long time and sleep well. He has been practicing in the Nine Chambers of Wudang Mountain for more than 20 years, and he does not eat food every day, but only drinks a few glasses of wine. Later, he successively moved to the Yuntai Temple of Mount Hua and the Stone Cave of Shaohua Mountain, immersed himself in the cultivation of Neidan, was famous for his innate sleep skills, could sleep for more than a hundred consecutive days without waking up, and also wrote a famous "Song to the Imperial Palace", which included "Unfurling your eyebrows, liberating your belly, and sleeping!" What's more, the jade rabbit rises in the east, and the red wheel falls in the west".

Chen Zhuo can use the I Ching arithmetic to predict the future, and can also perceive what people think. There was a big scoop hanging on the wall of his room, and the Daoist priest Jia Xiufu wanted this big scoop in his heart, so he came to visit Chen Xuan, and before he could speak, Chen Zhuo already knew what he meant, so he said to him: "You have nothing else to do, but you just want my big scoop." Immediately, he asked the waiter to take the big scoop down and give it to Jia Xiufu. Jia Xiufu was taken aback and said vigorously that Chen Xuan was an immortal. One day in 988, Chen Zhuo suddenly said to his disciple Jia Desheng, "You can dig a stone for a room in Zhang Chaogu, where I will rest." In July of the following year, the stone chamber was chiseled, and Chen Zhuo personally wrote a table of hundreds of words to the imperial court, saying that "his qi will be exhausted, and the holy pilgrimage will be difficult to attach to, and he will be transformed into Zhang Chaogu under the Lotus Peak on July 22." Later, he died as scheduled, and after seven days, his limbs were still warm. At that time, there were five-colored clouds covering the mouth of the cave, which did not disperse for a month. Behind Chen Xuan was a disciple of the Four Lineages, Shao Yong, who was proficient in fortune telling, divination, and looking at faces, and was the ancestor of the fortune tellers of later generations.

Chen Zhuo's most widely circulated story is a chess game between him and Zhao Kuangyin, the grandfather of the Song Dynasty. This matter is not recorded in the history, but there are many records in books and articles after the Ming Dynasty, and there is still a site where the two men played chess in Huashan today - "Playing Chess Pavilion". This story tells that when Zhao Kuangyin was not yet in his career, he once passed through Mount Hua because of an incident, and played three games of chess with Chen Zhuo, who lived in seclusion in Mount Hua, and all of them had color heads. In the first two sets, two people won one set each and each won the jackpot. Before the third game, Zhao Kuangyin couldn't get any lottery on his body, so he said roguely: "I bet on Mount Hua!"

Unexpectedly, Chen Zhuo agreed very happily, and also let Zhao Kuangyin stand up as proof, and Zhao Kuangyin brushed and wrote down the letter contract. As a result, Zhao Kuangyin lost the third game, and Chen Zhuo pushed the chessboard and said happily: "Mount Hua belongs to my Taoist family, thank you Lord Longen!" Zhao Kuangyin listened to him and was stunned, and Chen Zhuo solemnly said to him: "In the future, the brave man will be designated as the Ninth Five-Year Honor, and remember not to violate today's agreement." Later, Zhao Kuangyin did ascend the throne and became emperor, so he gave Mount Hua to Chen Zhuo as agreed, and ordered that Mount Hua be exempted from taxes forever. Folk have a saying that "there is no tax since guhua mountain", which comes from this.
