Former Guild Wars 2 narrative director joined Bungie to develop the undisclosed game

Bungie continues to work on Destiny 2, which includes seasonal content and major expansion packs such as the upcoming Phantom of the Evil Woman. However, it is understood that Bungie is working on another game, a new IP tentatively scheduled for release in 2025. Bungie fans have been piecing together the details of this new project. Recently, a former Guild Wars 2 developer confirmed that he has joined Bungie to take charge of an undisclosed game.

The developer is Tom Abernathy, who worked on Guild Wars 2 between 2017 and December 2021 and joined Bungie in 2022. Abernathy said on Twitter that he had joined Bungie as senior narrative executive on an "unpublished project," meaning he wasn't involved in the development of Destiny 2. Whether this "new unpublished work" is Bungie's new IP for 2025 is unclear.

Tom Abernathy was recruited for his unique experience with guild wars 2, joining ArenaNet in 2017 as the studio's narrative director, when Guild Wars 2 had been on sale for five years. This means that Abernathy's experience with Guild Wars 2 games is a post-release DLC narrative, and Guild Wars 2 has a lot of DLC in this regard. Free DLC chapters, paid content, and major expansion packs are all powerful vehicles for Abernathy to present its story.
