The Summer Game Festival 2022 will feature an opener live, hosted by Geoff Keighley, featuring events from the world's premier game developers and publishers.

The 2022 Summer Game Festival was first officially announced in early December last year, and this time, an hour after E3 announced that 2022 would be an online broadcast, Geoff Keighley immediately tweeted to remind fans that the Summer Game Festival will also return. It is worth mentioning that Geoff Keighley was one of the organizers of the original E3, after ending the partnership with E3 in early 2020, it is speculated that Geoff Keighley is unhappy with E3's efforts to open the event to celebrities and the public.

Geoff Keighley then founded the Summer Game Festival, a small four-month event organized by independent publishers, developers and groups. In 2021, the Summer Gaming Festival was shortened to a month in June, but it has a formal launch event and a larger partner showcase and disclosure.
