Russian media: Russians think that the New Year holiday is too long

Before 1947, the holiday was only on The 1st of January, and people had to go to work immediately after the celebration.

After 1993, the rest day became two days. Since 2004, citizens have 5 days of rest – 1 to 5. In 2012 it was decided to extend the holiday to 8 days – 1 to 8 days.

"Since then, New Year's 'rest days' have been almost 10 days a year," Volokin said. But there have been new proposals: some have suggested shortening the New Year's holiday and increasing the number of days off in May; some have supported a continued extension of the holiday; and others have advocated the abolition of the New Year's holiday. ”

According to the report, the president of the Russian State Duma proposed three options for this purpose - to maintain the status quo, reduce the number of days, and move to a warmer season.

It is reported that 5,000 fans have made a choice: 57% choose to maintain the status quo, 20% and 23% are the second and third options.

Previously, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, chairman of the Russian Liberal Democratic Party, proposed on New Year's Eve to cancel the long holiday and increase the number of annual leave days. He said that in this way, "no one will drink (wine) too much", and the pressure of first aid will be significantly reduced, which is also good for the economy.
