AMD Ryzen™ 6000 Series Processor Debuts 40Gbps USB4 Interface Is Coming

At the CES exhibition in the early hours of yesterday morning, AMD released the Ryzen 6000 series processor, the CPU upgraded the 6nm Zen3+ architecture, and the GPU also upgraded the RDNA2 architecture, the overall performance increased by 30%, and it can also provide up to 24 hours of notebook battery life.

In addition to the improvement of the processor, the Ryzen 6000 series has also been fully upgraded in IO technology, PCIe 4.0 is back, supporting Bluetooth 5.2E, Wi-Fi 6E and HDMI 2.1, but the most surprising thing is the USB4 interface debut.

Why is USB4 important? Because in the past one or two years, Intel has fully integrated Thunderbolt4 (commonly known as Thunderbolt 4) interface on the 11th generation Core, 40Gbps speed, 100W power supply is very good and powerful, AMD's Ryzen 5000 series notebooks dwarf, manufacturers can only do USB 3.2 Gen2x2, speed 20Gbps, power supply is not uniform.

Although the Thunderbolt4 interface can be compatible with USB4, USB4 is still not the focus in the 12th generation Core, giving AMD the opportunity to launch the Ryzen 6000 series.

At present, many manufacturers' Ryzen™ 6000 series notebooks have not yet announced detailed specifications, but Lenovo's newly launched ThinkPad Z13 and Z16 series have been fully followed, respectively, equipped with 2 and 3 USB4 interfaces.

Compared with the previous USB interface, USB4 fully adopts type-C physical interface, front and back plugs, the rate can reach 40Gbps, also supports 100W power supply output, supports bandwidth sharing, and is also compatible with Thunderbolt3 (theoretically compatible with Thunderbolt4), but also supports DP 1.4, so that data, video and power supply trinity, thin and light can use USB4 line + charging head power supply without special power supply.

According to the industry's expectations, in 2022, the USB4 interface will be increased, at least on high-end notebooks will become standard.
