Beijing, January 5 (China News Network) -- In accordance with the requirements of the International Olympic Committee's milestone tasks, the main media center of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games officially launched trial operation on January 4. According to the provisions of the epidemic prevention manual, the main media center officially entered the closed-loop management of the game at 15:00 on the 4th. By the time of the race, the venue is expected to host an average of around 5,000 to 6,000 registered photojournalists and rights holders per day.

Zhang Wenlei, director of the main media center venue, mentioned the above content at the press conference held by the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee on the 5th.

The main media center is located in the second phase of the China National Convention Center, which is separated from the first phase of the National Convention Center (formerly the main news center and the international broadcasting center of the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympic Games), forming a unique landmark landscape of Beijing's "City of Two Olympics" of "one south, one north, and the Summer Olympic Winter Olympics". With the design concept of "green, environmental protection and technology", the owner unit Beichen Group integrated the elements of "smart exhibition and smart Winter Olympics", and in just 34 months, it completed the construction tasks of the venue project with high standards and high quality, and delivered the Olympic broadcast service company OBS and the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee as scheduled in July and November 2021, respectively, and the main media center venue reconstructed by the construction project fully reflected the requirements of "sustainable development" and "simple Olympics".

The main media center includes the two functions of the main news center MPC and the international broadcasting center IBC, is the headquarters of registered print media and broadcasters, is the official information release center of the Beijing Winter Olympic Organizing Committee, the International Olympic Committee and the national Olympic Committees, and is the media service headquarters and media traffic hub.

Zhang Wenlei said that during the trial operation from January 4 to 22, more than 1,700 journalists and rights holders from all over the world will carry out pre-game preparations in advance in the main media center. It is expected that by the time of the game, the venue will receive an average of about 5,000-6,000 registered text photojournalists and rights holders per day, including Xinhua News Agency, Associated Press, Reuters, Agence France-Presse, Gedi Photo Agency, Kyodo News, Yomiuri Shimbun, New York Times, Washington Post, China Central Radio and Television Corporation, NBC, BBC, Exploration Communications Company, as well as the National Olympic and Paralympic Committees of the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Italy, and Russia. At the same time, the headquarters of the IOC and the IPC for media operations and press outreach are also located here.

She mentioned that the main media center also provides various facilities and services for the media to report on the event, such as technology, language, transportation, catering and commercial facilities.

As an important facility of the venue, the four press conference halls are used to host various press conferences of the International Olympic Committee, the International Sports Federation, the National and Regional Olympic Committees, the Organizing Committees of the Host Cities, and the daily briefings of the Olympic Broadcasting Service Company. The largest of these, the main press room, is located on the south side of the prologue hall on the first floor, with an area of about 930 square meters, can accommodate 380 participants, and is equipped with simultaneous interpretation services in 8 languages, and will welcome the first pre-match launch of the IOC at the end of January.

Two integrated service desks have been set up on the first floor and the second basement floor of the venue to provide information consultation, language and guidance services for broadcasters and registered print media.

At the same time, the venue is also equipped with comprehensive technical services, including "media +" special line communication, radio frequency, retransmission aggregation network, remote simultaneous interpretation, remote sports display and barrier-free network for registered media, etc., to ensure the smooth development of TV broadcasting and news coverage of the Winter Olympic Games.

Zhang Wenlei said that in addition to providing the necessary working facilities and services, the main media center innovated and launched the media restaurant of the "Smart Winter Olympics". The intelligent meal making and catering service system here can not only maximize the efficiency of meal supply, but also maximize the saving of manpower and avoid excessive personnel interaction in the environment of epidemic prevention and control. The media restaurant will start a 24-hour operation during the competition, providing various catering options such as Chinese food, Western food and fast food for media friends from all over the world.

The main media center is also equipped with the center of the Olympic media traffic, and more than 40 traffic shuttle lines and microcirculation shuttle lines in the Olympic center area are planned, connecting hotels, competition venues and three major competition areas. At the same time, the media is equipped with a toll card car with a driver to meet the personalized travel needs of the media in the closed loop.

Zhang Wenlei mentioned that in terms of epidemic prevention and control, according to the content requirements of the epidemic prevention manual (second edition), the inner and outer ring areas of the ring are accurately divided, and the flow lines of various types of people and materials are designed to ensure that the partitions do not overlap and the streamlines do not intersect.
