The WBA has awarded title holders Ugas and Spence Jr. in a three-fold championship title in the sub-middleweights. According to Ugas, the battle could happen in the spring of 2022. Ugas told Fox Sports: "Our expectation is to fight in March or April, and the goal is a three-belt championship! “
Right now, Ugas holds the WBA title, while Spence Jr. has the WBC and IBF sub-middleweight titles. While many boxing fans would like to see Ugas next play WBO champion Terence Crawford, this is not the best option as Ugas can get closer to the unified sub-middleweight by holding three belts.
Errol Spence Jr., 32, has a professional record of 27 wins and 21 KO opponents. He began his professional boxing career in 2012 and won the IBF Welterweight World Championship in 2017 before successfully defending the title three times in a row. In September 2019, he won the gold belt of the sub-middleweight world championships of both the WBC and IBF organizations in points, and successfully defended the title of two organizations in December 2020. In August 2021, he accepted the challenge of Pacquiao, and then withdrew due to a torn retina, and was replaced by Cuban boxing champion Yordenis Ugas against Pacquiao.
