The first person in Sichuan to "open his eyes and see the world", if it were not for Cixi stopping him, he would have been killed in Japan

In the five-thousand-year history of China's great power, there is a memory that we do not want to forget in modern times - that is, the Second World War. From the end of the Qing Dynasty to the founding of New China, how many people of insight, how many revolutionary martyrs, and how many ordinary people's flesh and blood were exchanged for this difficult victory.

The wind began at the end of the duckweed, in fact, when the Sino-Japanese War broke out, many courtiers of the Qing court at that time proposed a strategy to save the country, and one of them proposed a strategy that was only one step away, he wrote to the Qing court, believing that Japan was "short of money and wealth, and it was enough to endure", and the Japanese projectile land at that time lacked sufficient material reserves, and when the strength of the country invaded China, the country was bound to be empty, and the ordinary people in the country were living in difficulty and difficult to sustain.

If they can attack Japan at this time, it will definitely be a bottom of the barrel, so that the Japanese army invading China will have to return to China to support, the veterans of the returning Japanese army division will be tired, and the local operation will further affect domestic production and material supply. This is a good plan, so who came up with such a good plan?

The first person to "open your eyes to see the world"

Song Yuren, born in 1857 in Fushun, Sichuan, died in 1931, the year the Japanese War of Aggression against China began. He was an early bourgeois reformist thinker in China, an advocate of the Chongqing Restoration Movement, and the first person in Sichuan to "open his eyes to the world". Shi Ren was praised as "the earliest to talk about the New Deal, the deepest in the art of governing the scriptures, and his writings were all over the world."

Song Yuren entered the priesthood in 1886 and was subsequently appointed as the shujishi of the Hanlin Academy. After five years of intensive study, he completed the writing of the "Theory of Current Affairs", which completely expounded the proposition of the restoration and change of law. For three years, he served as the Counsellor of the British, French, Italian, and Belgian Missions. In foreign countries, he focused on studying the economic and political ideas of Western society.

After returning to China, he was responsible for presiding over the commercial work in Sichuan, in charge of the Commerce Bureau, participating in the "Strong Society" of the restoration organization, lecturing on "The Study of China's Self-Improvement", and actively establishing various industrial economies during his tenure. However, because he was not familiar with business affairs, he also made jokes about "refining kerosene from coal". The hoarding of large quantities of coal in Chongqing even caused the local people to be nervous about using coal, which almost provoked a popular uprising.

It can be seen that no one is perfect, and Song Yuren is an excellent thinker, but he does not know the mystery of rationalization.

After the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War in 1894, Song Yuren was bent on saving the country and actively strategizing abroad, but at that time the Qing court had decided to adopt an appeasement policy, and Song Yuren's move was reported back to China by his then superior, Gong Zhaoyi, the minister of the Qing court in Britain.

Song Yuren fell short of success and wrote the "Borrowed Notes" on the way back to China, recording in detail the planning. A year later, the Qing court surrendered to Japan and signed the Treaty of Maguan, which greatly deepened the semi-colonization of the society at that time.

After the war, the Qing court originally wanted to dispose of Song Yuren, but Song Yuren obtained many important courtiers and foreign people during the plot, which was very involved and had a great impact. In the end, Song Yuren was not deeply investigated, but was demoted back to the original post of Four Pins by the Erpin Ding dai, who was rewarded when he was abroad, and still served in the Hanlin Academy. At this time, Song Yuren, although he also felt that his ambitions were not rewarded, was still active in the political arena. Until four years later another major historical event occurred.

In 1898, Cixi launched a coup d'état, and the Hundred Days Restoration failed. Song Yuren's political ideas and fellow friends were buried here. This hit him so hard that he slowly withdrew from the political arena. From then on, he wrote books and did not ask about the world.

To this day, when it comes to the "famous regrets" in history and the tactics of surprising victory in the war, Song Yuren's plans at the beginning of the Sino-Japanese War will still be listed, so how was he prepared to attack Japan at that time?

Fantastic ideas

To this day, we cannot know whether Song Yuren's plan on that day would really succeed if it was successfully carried out, whether it could save the Qing court that was already corrupt at that time, and whether it could give the ordinary people at that time more peace, but what we can know is that if the Qing court at that time could unite many people of insight and have the determination to resist, the course of history would certainly be very different.

Song Yuren's specific measure at that time was actually to borrow money as a minister to buy British warships, recruit Australian sailors, take advantage of the Japanese invasion of China to attack Japan, and encircle Wei to save Zhao.

At that time, he submitted it to the Qing court for approval; he obtained the support of Liu Kunyi, Zhang Zhidong, the governor of Liangjiang, and other feudal officials; actively consulted with foreigners, prepared guns and ammunition and a sailor army to participate in the war, and found Lang Weili, the former chief instructor of the Beiyang Marine Division and an officer of the British navy, to command it, and pretended that this water army was an escort caravan when attacking.

At that time, Japan's national strength was not strong, and it could only "feed the war with war." For the Japanese side, once the war cannot be won quickly, it will inevitably cause a backlash from the domestic people, and under external and internal troubles, the Qing court will be able to directly get out of difficulties.

As for the costs to be paid, instead of losing this money to the invading country after the defeat, it is better to use it to defend against foreign invasion. After all, once defeated, the Qing court, which was in an inferior position, could only resign itself to Japan, and if it purchased weapons and mercenaries from Western countries in advance, it could still be in an equal position and there was room for discussion.

In hindsight, this armed water army may not have been able to achieve its wishes smoothly. At that time, the Western powers had already pointed the spearhead at the Qing court, and the Qing court, which was constantly defeated, was better exploited.

However, just as the so-called "conspiracy lies in the people, success lies in the sky", it is precisely because the Qing court has been defeated again and again by the conservative policy again and again, so that it has been defeated in the late war, the national strength has continued to decline, and finally it has gone to extinction. If the Qing court can do its best to support this counterattack, it will not succeed. This idea predates the Allied plans to land on German soil twenty years before World War I.

Nostalgia for the past and the present

"Don't forget the past, the teacher of the future", remember the lessons of history in order to move forward better. It is the responsibility of guarding the land, and it is the responsibility that everyone should bear. "The king died and the son of heaven guarded the city gate", the Qing court at that time did not fulfill the responsibility of guarding the territory of one side, and eventually the feudal dynasty collapsed like an ant nest.

In his lifetime, Song Yuren studied hard in the cold window when he was young, entered the priesthood and the first; "cultivated the art of literature and martial arts, sold to the emperor's family", and then served in the Qing court, constantly learning Western thought; running around at the time of the chaos of the soldiers and horses, the wind and rain, in order to save the country; finally the ideal was shattered, indulging in scholarship, leaving a spark of thinking, illuminating future generations.

His life seems to be legendary, but in fact it is full of ups and downs. His brilliant ideas have not been adopted, have been slowly forgotten in the long river of history, and will only be mentioned as anecdotes in later commentaries. However, for Song Yuren, his lifelong pursuit and continuous study and learning eventually gave him a foothold in the society where the people were not happy at that time.

And it is precisely because of such a group of people's continuous exploration that the spark of stars can finally be ignited, and the new thinking collides with the old thinking, and we have ushered in a new era. "The wood of the embrace is born at the end of the millimeter; the platform of the nine floors begins from the earth; the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step."
