In 1986, the Ministry of Railways decided to increase the output of Dongfeng (Dongfeng 4 locomotive), the main model of China's trunk line, in order to gradually eliminate the "old Dongfeng". After hearing the news, the factory immediately decided: seize the opportunity and meet the challenge. In August 1986, several "family members" in the motor workshop first stood up, "can not get out within a year, deduct three months of wages, and remove them on the spot." They issued military orders and took the lead in rolling up the covers to live in the workshop and eat in the workshop.

After a short period of ten months, through the continuous rush and hard work of "being a family member" and the workers, as well as the active cooperation of relevant departments, chengdu locomotive and rolling stock factory, an inconspicuous repair factory, finally produced the supporting products of dongfeng 4 locomotives - 410 kilowatt traction motors and 3000 kilowatts traction generators, and realized the design of the year, the prototype of the year, and the ministerial appraisal of the year. In that year, Chengdu Locomotive Factory also achieved the goal of producing 5 sets of supporting motors (one generator per part and six electric motors), and since then it has undergone a historic change in operation from a single repair type to a construction and operation type, broadening the living space and laying the foundation for future development.

Chengdu Locomotive Factory believes that electric locomotives will be the future driving force of China's railway transportation. In February 1989, Chengdu Locomotive Factory decided to develop and produce the most advanced electrified locomotive in China at that time, the supporting motor of Shaoshan 3 electric locomotive: 800 kilowatt pulse flow traction generator. In July 1989, hundreds of sets of electric locomotive molds and process drawings came out, which was cut in half the normal time. At the end of 1989, the entity of the 800-kilowatt pulse flow traction generator was displayed in front of people, and once again created the miracle of design, sample in that year, passed the ministerial appraisal in that year, and formed mass production capacity in that year.

Success after success has made Chengdu Locomotive Factory more and more scrappy, and the pace of developing new products has become bigger and bigger. In 1992, the Ministry of Railways approved Chengdu Locomotive Factory and several other brother factories to jointly develop and produce Shaoshan 7 type electric locomotives with advanced domestic level. In less than a year, Chengdu Locomotive Factory won the supporting 850-kilowatt traction motor, and in June 1995, the Shaoshan 7 electric locomotive passed the Ministry of Railways ring line heavy-duty experiment. At that time, the personnel who tested the Shaoshan 7 electric locomotive commented on it: "This kind of car is the best domestic car we have tested, and the 850 kW traction motor is in a very stable state." ”

Chengdu Locomotive Factory can be so successful, inseparable from adhering to the construction spirit of "building a factory with quality", inseparable from the service spirit of improving quality as its own responsibility, and also inseparable from the hard work of all staff in the factory. As a senior engineer in the factory said: "Our factory can win the National Quality Management Award twice, not by spending money to buy, but by our self-reliance, hard work to develop out, it condenses the hard work of the whole factory staff." ”

As an objective accommodator and spectator, the Chengdu Locomotive Factory Building has witnessed everything that has happened from beginning to end, including the arduous process of China's locomotive and rolling stock industry in the southwest region from scratch, from a single steam locomotive in the 1950s to the current development of internal combustion, electricity and subway locomotives, including the life course of employees growing up, falling in love and having children here.

In 2012, as a factual portrayal of the people's support for the construction of the third line of socialism in the southwest in the early days of the founding of New China and the unforgettable collective memory of the older generation of employees of the whole factory, as the only Soviet-style building office building that is currently the most intact and still in use by the public mining enterprises in Chengdu, the chengdu locomotive factory building was listed as a provincial cultural relics protection unit by the Sichuan Provincial People's Government with the characteristics of important historical sites and representative buildings in modern times, and a stone monument was erected for permanent preservation.
