Valve has released its December 2021 Steam Hardware and Software Survey. The data shows that the total number of monthly active VR headset users on the Steam platform is 1.93%, an increase of 0.09% over the previous month. In terms of the proportion of headsets, the use of Meta's Quest 2 increased by 3.3%, jumping from 36.32% of the entire user base in early December to 39.62% in early 2022.

It is reported that Meta's equipment continued to maintain a share of more than half in terms of market share, accounting for 63.58%, an increase of 1.59% month-on-month, and the share hit a record high. Valve Index fell for three consecutive months, with usage falling to 15.79 percent, ranking second. HTC, which ranks third in brand share, saw user growth through promotions and other means, including a 0.14% increase in Vive Cosmos (a significant discount in sales) and a 0.1% increase in Windows Mixed Reality, which may be attributed to the launch of the improved HP Reverb G2.
With 2022 approaching, Meta will release another new headset in the form of an indie Project Cambria, and the market will also usher in other new competitors.
