At the end of the Liberation War, there was a "military commander's wife" named Wei Xiuying in Guangxi, whose husband was Zhang Ruigui, the former commander of the 63rd Army of Chiang Kai-shek.
Zhang Ruigui was a native of Qinzhou and fought bravely, but in 1946, when chiang kai-shek launched a civil war, Zhang Ruigui did not want to be used by the Huangpu department of the Central Army, so he took the excuse to resign and left the Kuomintang army. In the middle and late period of the Liberation War, the situation of the Nationalist army in the northern battlefield was tight, and Lao Jiang was worried that the southern foundation was threatened, and in the early years Zhang Ruigui operated in Guangxi and Guangdong for many years, and had great influence in the two Guangdong regions, so Lao Jiang decided to reactivate Zhang Ruigui, and in 1948 appointed him as the commander-in-chief of the Qing and suppression in the southern district of Guangdong and Guizhou, sitting in Zhanjiang.
When Zhang Ruigui was the commander of the 63rd Army in his early years, his wife Wei Xiuying had a rough and tough personality, and was quite influential in her hometown, coupled with the fact that her husband was getting bigger and bigger in the army, the villagers feared Wei Xiuying, and gradually became a local hegemon, and was called "the captain's wife". When Zhang Ruigui was leading the army in Guangzhou, he took Wei Xiuying to share the wealth, but Wei Xiuying was very jealous of her husband's practice of going to the big city, gambled and ran back to his hometown, and also took away a lot of guns and ammunition of the national army, thus starting to establish his own armed forces in the 100,000 Mountains.
Subsequently, the situation of the Kuomintang army in the national battlefield took a sharp turn for the worse, and the remnants of the defeated soldiers fled south one after another. At the end of 49, Zhang Ruigui could not support it, fled to Hainan, and originally planned to take Wei Xiuying to escape with him, but Wei Xiuying had already pulled up a team of up to 5,000 people in Guangxi at this time, with more than 2,000 guns, which was the largest bandit force in the local area, living a luxurious life and unwilling to leave the mainland.
The Kuomintang government took a fancy to Wei Xiuying's desire for power and its mentality of enjoyment, so it took advantage of it and appointed her as the commander-in-chief of the National Salvation Army in the Guangdong-Guangxi Border Region, asking her to stay in Guangxi to engage in sabotage, and at the same time as a bridgehead for future "counter-offensives," Wei Xiuying gladly took command. In March 1950, the bandit forces under Wei Xiuying's command launched a riot in the village of Nayuan in Qin County, killing 42 revolutionary masses and 42 members of the local government's grain collection team, and then organizing sabotage activities on many occasions, killing more than 200 people and robbing countless property and livestock.
Due to the ineffective suppression of bandits in Guangxi, the chairman seriously criticized the cadres of the relevant troops in Charge of the liquidation and suppression of the bandits in Siye and dispatched additional military strength to accelerate the suppression of the bandits. Our army dispatched two regular corps, plus nearly a million militia troops, to focus on clearing and suppressing the 100,000 mountainous areas, and the bandits under Wei Xiuying's command were the focus of encirclement and suppression.
Because of the critical situation and knowing that her command ability was limited, Wei Xiuying immediately sent a telegram to the Taiwan side to send a commander with excellent military quality to work with her to defuse the crisis. Taiwan did send a "chief of staff of the National Salvation Army" for it, but was captured by our army halfway. Therefore, our side sent Dong Shaotang, chief of the reconnaissance section, to infiltrate Wei Xiuying's bandit department under a false identity, and quickly found out the enemy's firepower deployment and troop deployment.
In January 1951, the People's Liberation Army made rapid progress in a targeted manner, thousands of bandits were killed, wounded, and taken prisoner, and Wei Xiuying himself was finally killed by our army in a mansion in Nahou Village, Dalu Town, after many days of escape and stubborn resistance. Later, the Taiwan side posthumously awarded Wei Xiuying the rank of "Colonel of the Army", and her husband Zhang Ruigui lived in Taiwan in his later years and died of illness in 1977.
