Among the founding generals of New China, many of them held the deputy posts of the Grand Military Region, and were later promoted to the main posts of the Grand Military Region. Very few people will be directly promoted from a deputy post in a military region to a full post, and generally after being transferred to a full post. Like Li Chengfang, who served as the deputy commander of the Wuhan Military Region, he returned again after 15 years and became the first political commissar.
Li Chengfang, in the early days of liberation, rose all the way from brigade commander to deputy commander, acting commander, and military commander of the military region. After liberation, he participated in the volunteer army and returned to China. When he arrived at the Southwest Military Region as deputy chief of staff, because the Southwest Military Region was an old unit of Erye, he returned to his "mother's house" back.
Not long after he went to the Southwest Military Region to study, he went to the Nanjing Military Academy to study, and after graduation, he was arranged to serve as a deputy commander of the Wuhan Military Region and ranked as a deputy commander of the Great Military Region. He served in the Wuhan Military Region for 5 years, and was transferred to the Kunming Military Region as the second political commissar, in which he served for 12 years, due to special periods.
He did not work for two years, and in 1977, he was reassigned to his original unit, the Wuhan Military Region, as the first political commissar. By this time, he had been away from the Wuhan Military Region for 15 years. After 5 years in the Wuhan Military Region, he left office in 1982. Because of his poor health, he died of illness two years later at the age of 70.
