In May 1978, Chiang Ching-kuo was inaugurated as the leader of the Taiwan region, but at this moment, his health has also lit up a red light. Under the torment of long-term diabetes, his eyes, hands and feet, and internal organs have all developed lesions, and Taiwan's political circles have entered the problem of having to face the power inheritance of the "post-Chiang Ching-kuo era" early. Frankly speaking, since the 1950s, after the Chiang family has established itself in Taiwan, Chiang Kai-shek and Chiang Ching-kuo have been interested in Chiang Hyo-wen and deliberately cultivated him, hoping that he will become the target of the third generation of power inheritance of the Chiang family.
Under the meticulous design and arrangement of Chiang Kai-shek's father and son, Jiang Xiaowen served as the frontline field manager of the Taiwan Electric Power Company in Kinmen Island, and with the full cooperation of the military, quickly completed the construction of the power project on the entire island of Kinmen. In order to let Jiang Xiaowen make brilliant political achievements, the father and son of the Jiang family gradually established their prestige in the people, and made arrangements for the future third generation to succeed them. During his tenure as manager of Kinmen, Jiang Xiaowen lived up to the expectations of his grandfather and father, and indeed had a positive evaluation, so he was naturally transferred back to the manager of The Taoyuan District of the Taiwan Electric Power Company, and at the same time concurrently served as the chairman of the Party Department of Taoyuan County of the Kuomintang. At this time, Jiang Xiaowen was proud of his youth, and his future was very good, and he was ready to show his skills and do a good job.
However, fate tricked people, Jiang Xiaowen in a friend's wedding banquet, by the ceremony delay, postponed the time of normal meals, because at that time he had suffered from family inherited diabetes, in the case of hypoglycemia, suddenly fell into a coma, did not get proper care in time, so that his brain nerves were damaged, resulting in obvious sequelae, from then on life can not take care of themselves, must be taken care of. The third-generation succession plan carefully arranged by the father and son of the Jiang family had to come to an abrupt end and drew a regretful end.
After Jiang Xiaowen fell ill, Jiang Jingguo's second son, Jiang Xiaowu, based on his sense of mission to inherit family power, took the initiative to jump out without hesitation, expressing a strong intention to succeed.
It's just that Jiang Xiaowu didn't study and study seriously since he was a child, but under the indulgence of many attendants, he was pampered and arrogant, and he liked to play with guns and dance knives, often causing trouble outside, bringing a lot of unnecessary troubles and distress to Chiang Ching-kuo. Therefore, Chiang Ching-kuo is not optimistic about Jiang Xiaowu's intention to succeed him, but just waits and sees whether Jiang Xiaowu himself has enough ability to gradually establish his prestige in the hearts of people from all walks of life in Taiwan, and to get everyone's recognition and support, and then talk about whether to cultivate him.
Wang Xiling, a former Taiwanese "intelligence bureau chief" who had been a military attaché around Chiang Kai-shek for six years and had many contacts with members of the Chiang family, knew quite well what Jiang Xiaowu said and did and even what he was thinking. He did not deny that Jiang Xiaowu had attempts to take over the baton of Chiang Ching-kuo's regime.

With the idea of taking over the political power, Jiang Xiaowu tried to follow the old path of Chiang Ching-kuo taking over Chiang Kai-shek's power in the past—starting with mastering the intelligence system. Wang Xiling explained: "Jiang Xiaowu is close to the intelligence system, but that is his personal will. When Mr. Jingguo was young, he also began to control the intelligence system, so Jiang Xiaowu felt that if he wanted to take over his father's power, he would have to win over the intelligence unit. At that time, Wang Yongshu, who was the "director of Taiwan's state security bureau," and Shen Zhiyue, who was the "director of the investigation bureau," were both the objects of Jiang Xiaowu's careful management. As for Wang Xiling, she was once the deputy director of the "State Security Bureau," later became the intelligence chief of the "National Security Bureau" in the United States, and later transferred to the "intelligence bureau chief." Naturally, she naturally became the object of Jiang Xiaowu's contacts. In the past, Wang Xiling served in the United States, and on every birthday, Jiang Xiaowu would call him with congratulations, and when he returned to Taiwan to report for duty, Jiang Xiaowu mostly invited him to a meal. After that, Jiang Xiaowu visited or returned to Taiwan, and the secretary of the second son of the Jiang family must contact Wang Xiling. Wang Xiling understood that this was to invite him to the airport to meet and deliver, and he had also been there two or three times, so he did not go again. However, since Jiang Xiaowu was the son of Chiang Ching-kuo, including Wang Xiling, several intelligence unit chiefs did not slack off and had considerable contacts with him, especially Wang Yongshu, who was the "director of the National Security Bureau."
I remember that in the early 1980s, it was rumored in Taipei's political circles that Jiang Xiaowu had an office at the "Garrison Headquarters" and was involved in Taiwan's intelligence work. At that time, there was a saying that Jiang Xiaowu might succeed him. Jiang Xiaowu deliberately maintained close relations and contacts with the intelligence units, and later finally brought trouble to himself.

After the "Jiangnan Murder Case" occurred, overseas people always believed that the "Intelligence Bureau" was involved in the case, and it was bound to be instructed or "acquiesced" by the "high-level" people. Was it a direct order from Chiang Ching-kuo? Some people speculate. However, most people, including Jiangnan's widow Cui Rongzhi, did not believe chiang kai-shek's order.
Although they do not believe that Chiang Kai-shek ordered "sanctions" by the National Assembly, many people speculate that Jiang Xiaowu is related to the "Jiangnan Murder Case" because he himself has long given the impression to the outside world that he is closely related to the intelligence units. This speculation is by no means "out of thin air", this is because after the whole case broke out, Zhang Anle, a stalwart of the Bamboo Gang and nicknamed "White Wolf", insisted that Jiang Xiaowu had ordered it.
Later, after being arrested, Dong Guisen, who had been shot and killed in Jiangnan, also pointed out categorically when he was tried in the United States that it was Jiang Xiaowu who issued the order to kill.
However, Wang Xiling affirmed that Jiang Xiaowu had absolutely nothing to do with the "Jiangnan Murder Case": "There is no formal relationship, Jiang Xiaowu is close to the intelligence system, and it is misunderstood by the outside world that Mr. Jingguo assigned him to control the intelligence system." Wang Xiling explained that in fact, Jiang Xiaowu had no formal relationship with the intelligence system, nor did he hold any position, so naturally he could not order the "intelligence bureau" to do something, or not to do anything.
Chiang Ching-kuo's third son, Jiang Xiaoyong, later criticized his brother: "He just liked that tune, making people think that he had a special relationship with the intelligence system, but later it hurt him!" I think the Jiangnan case is a rather stupid thing, after this incident, my father was very angry, but my uncle (referring to Jiang Weiguo) or the second brother was definitely not involved in it. However, for the second brother being involved, I would rather be even, eighty percent of them are rumors from others, and twenty percent are giving others this impression. "I remember that at that time, I also gave him the title of 'Deputy Secretary General of the National Security Council'," Jiang Xiaoyong recalled: "There was no such thing at all, but since it was not denied beforehand, it would be difficult to try to explain it after the fact." ”
Under the constant rumors from the outside world, Chiang Ching-kuo finally decided to transfer Jiang Xiaowu away from Taipei, which is the center of political non-centrality, to serve as "deputy representative in Singapore" in order to block the leisurely mouths of the people. On February 17, 1986, Taiwan's Foreign Affairs Department officially announced "General Manager of China Broadcasting Corporation" Jiang Xiaowu as "Deputy Representative in Singapore". The next morning, Jiang Xiaowu took a flight to take up a new post. Since then, he has never met With Chiang Ching-kuo again, and his father and son have been separated forever, believing that this is the eternal pain in Chiang Ching-kuo's heart and the eternal regret of Jiang Xiaowu.
On August 16 and December 25, 1985, Chiang Ching-kuo publicly stated twice: "The succession of members of the Chiang family has never been considered" and that "the Chiang family cannot and will not run for the next 'president.'" ”
In this way, Chiang Ching-kuo ended Jiang Xiaowu's dream of succession. After Chiang Ching-kuo's death, the Chiang family also stepped out of the political circle, faded their aura, and became the homes of ordinary people!
