The captain of the transport brigade sent more than a hundred mortars, and our army annihilated more than 5,000 American troops

On October 1, 1951, the 7th and 8th Cavalry Regiments of the First Cavalry Division of the United States Army and the Greek Battalion launched a fierce attack on the southeastern area of Shuoning, where our army was stationed, in an attempt to tear a hole in it. However, what the US army did not expect was that the firepower of the volunteer army was quite fierce, and the US army could not lift its head. The two sides fought fiercely for 10 days, and the US and Greek coalition casualties exceeded 5,000 and had to retreat.

The Volunteers are engaged

Speaking of the FIRST CAVALRY DIVISION OF THE US ARMY, no one may not know it, because it has the title of "Founding Father Division". The division was formed in 1921, but its main units were the Second Cavalry Regiment (later renamed the 5th Cavalry Regiment) and the 7th Cavalry Regiment, both of which were formed by Washington himself during the Revolutionary War. From this, we can also see the position of the First Cavalry Division in the American Army.

Whether it is the predecessor of the First Cavalry Division or the newly formed First Cavalry Division, it has made great achievements in the history of the United States, from the War of Independence, to the Indian War, to the Mexican-American War, until the Second World War, the First Cavalry Division is like an iron fist, and the enemy is scattered everywhere it goes. However, this glorious journey came to an abrupt end in November 1950, as they met the Volunteers.

On November 1, 1950, for the first time, the ace forces of China and the United States collided head-on, opposite the 1st Cavalry Division, the 116th Division of the 39th Volunteer Army. The swaggering First Cavalry Division did not take the volunteers seriously, but at the beginning of the battle they realized that they were wrong.

The commander of the 8th Regiment of the First Cavalry Division wrote in his diary: "They are the fiercest enemies I have ever seen, and they rush across the frozen river to face us, with unparalleled speed, and soon enter the distance of the white-knife battle." Although General Mack sent a large number of Raiden fighters, they could only watch. In less than an hour, Camp C collapsed. The C battalion, which had beaten the Germans in Sicily and annihilated all the Japanese devils on Iwo Jima, had less than 100 men left when it withdrew. For the first time, I felt hopeless.

In the first engagement, the first cavalry division was annihilated by more than 1800 people, and since then the beating mode of the first cavalry division has been opened. In January 1951, the 38th Army dealt a heavy blow to the 1st Cavalry Division in a defensive battle south of the Han River; in February 1951, the 42nd Army defeated the 1st Cavalry Division and the British 27th Brigade at Longyuanli, annihilating nearly 10,000 enemy troops; in May 1951, the 65th Army annihilated a battalion of the 5th Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division in the Lianchuan Counterattack. In June 1951, during the Tieyuan Blockade Battle, the 187th Division of the 63rd Army annihilated more than 4,000 people of the 1st Cavalry Division; in September 1951, two regiments of the 64th Army eliminated more than 1,700 members of the 1st Cavalry Division at Tokuji Temple.

By the time of the Shuoning Defensive Battle in October, the 1st Cavalry Division had engaged the Volunteers 9 times, losing 9 times. This was unimaginable before, but now the officers and men of the First Cavalry Division have calmly faced it. Maybe it is numb after losing too much, and then there is a cheesy explanation, or it is called phase sex. At this time, the First Mounted Division did not know that this battle of Shuo Ning would be their last battle on the peninsula.

They were opposed by the 415th Regiment of the 139th Division of the 47th Army of the Volunteer Army. The volunteers, who had experienced 5 battles, had reached a frenzied pursuit of firepower. At this time, the 415th Regiment was equipped with dozens of 107 mm M2 chemical mortars. This gun was developed by the US military, and its special feature is that it is a rifled mortar, so it is extremely accurate. On the European battlefield, the U.S. military used it to blow up the German army on horseback.

During the Liberation War, the US military sent the equipment of four more artillery regiments to Captain Jiang of the transport brigade, who naturally did not dare to hide it privately and transferred all of them to the People's Liberation Army. These cannons played an important role in the battle of Shuoning.

The M2 mortar with great achievements in the battle of Shuoning Defense

At about 15:00 on the afternoon of October 8, our artillery scouts detected the assembly site of the First Mounted Division, and soon the shells were overwhelming. The combined forces of the United States and Greece suddenly suffered heavy casualties. The First Cavalry Division, which had been fighting hard for more than a week without success, completely collapsed its morale under this blow, and the next day, together with the Greek battalion, it withdrew from the battle in a gray and slippery manner. Throughout the battle, the enemy army was annihilated by more than 5,000 people, and the 1st Cavalry Division had to retreat to its garrison, and at the beginning of the following year it returned to the mainland to rest, and never fought with the volunteers since then.
