Xingning, founded in the sixth year of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (331), was divided and established by the ancient Longchuan River, and the county border spanned the valleys of the Ancient Xingning River (present-day Wuhua River), youbeixi (present-day Qinjiang), and Zuobeixi (present-day Ningjiang), including the whole territory of present-day Xingning and Wuhua counties, the eastern part of Longchuan County, and the northeast of Zijin County, and the name of the county was derived from the Ningjiang River.
