Egypt plans to bid for the 2036 Olympic Games, aiming to become "Africa's first"

CCTV News: Egyptian Sports Minister Ashraf Sobi revealed that Egypt plans to bid for the 2036 Olympic Games and will strive to become the first African country to host the Olympic Games.

In an interview with Sky News Arab, Egypt is preparing to submit a formal application to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to officially bid for the 2036 Olympic Games. Egypt's sports minister confirmed that the authorities "are currently preparing a comprehensive document in this regard for submission to the IOC together with the proposed request." ”

IOC President Thomas Bach has previously said he is determined to let African countries bid for the Olympics because Africa remains the only densely populated continent that has not hosted the Games.

Sobi said he recently held a meeting with Mustafa-Bellaf, president of the Association of African Olympic Committees, claiming that Bellaff "confirms the association's enthusiasm and support for Egypt's hosting of the 2036 Olympic Games." ”

A multimillion-dollar sports complex called Egypt's International Olympic City, is currently being built in the new administrative capital, 45 kilometers east of Cairo. The project is expected to include a 90,000-seat stadium, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis courts and an indoor venue.

According to Sky News, Sobi believes the new development will boost Egypt's ambitions, but he acknowledges that officials will still assess technical, logistical and financial issues before submitting a formal request to the IOC. In addition to Egypt, officials from India, Russia, Spain, Turkey and Ukraine have all expressed interest in bidding for the 2036 Olympics.
