Tanjiaqiao Ambush: The God of War folds its halberd and will fall the stars

This is a duel between the Whampoa Phase III students and the first term seniors.

On December 10, 1934, the Tenth Army of the Anti-Japanese Advance Team of the Red Army marching north was assembled in the town of Tangkou in Huangshan, and the Kuomintang pursuit and interception troops heard the wind and moved in the direction of Tangkou.

Subsequently, the Tenth Army of the Red Army moved through Wuniguan to Tanjia Bridge in the eastern foothills of the Yellow Mountains. In view of the geographical advantage of the line from Wuniguan to Tanjiaqiao, the Red Tenth Army decided to set up an ambush at Tanjiaqiao and eat the lonely Kuomintang supplementary First Brigade.

Just as the two regiments of the First Brigade were about to enter the ambush circle, a Red Army soldier was overly nervous about his gun. The ambush was exposed, and an ambush battle instantly turned into an encounter, and the battlefield was lost.

A battle that could have changed the fate of the Red Tenth Legion became a turning point in the Red Tenth Legion's path of no return for various reasons.

This anti-Japanese advance detachment to the north was formed by the Red Seventh Army, which set out from the central Soviet district of Jiangxi to establish the new Soviet district in southern Anhui, and the red tenth army of the Fujian-Zhejiang-Gansu-Gansu district founded by Fang Zhimin, that is, the Tenth Army of the Red Army.

It is said that it is to go north to resist Japan and establish a new Soviet zone, but in fact it is to cover the long march of the Central Red Army to the south and attract firepower.

Let's look first at the composition of the leadership of this team, because these people will determine the fate of this team.

The commander of the regiment, Liu Yuxi, the commander of the Huangpu Phase I, the former commander of the Tenth Red Army, who had made many military achievements, had also been gilded at the Frunze Military Academy in the Soviet Union, and had originally served as a division commander in the Central Soviet Region, and was not long after the commander of the army. Because of his wounded in battle, he sawed an arm and was known as the "one-armed general". The disadvantage is the lack of combat command experience of the large corps, of course, this defect is certainly impossible for Liu Yuxi, who has become the head of the corps, to admit it. Sometimes in order to maintain one's own authority, it is likely to be achieved by attacking the correct views of others.

Political Commissar Le Shaohua, former political commissar of the Seventh Red Army, one of the "Twenty-Eight and a Half Bolsheviks", had experience in Lumo. These guys are similar to some of the current politicians who are playing tricks, and they have basically no idea about military struggle, but they have the final decision on military operations. And this man is arrogant, arbitrary, and self-righteous. He had a strong opinion on the commander of the Red Seventh Army, Xun Huaizhou, because the decisions made by Xun Huaizhou according to the actual situation of the battlefield often contradicted the decisions he made according to the instructions given by the remote control.

Fang Zhimin, chairman of the Military and Political Committee. It is reasonable to say that Fang Zhimin has the most say in the Red Tenth Army, but his long-term work is the creation and construction of the Soviet district and the work of party affairs, and he has almost no experience in military struggle. Moreover, the temperament of the literati on the body is too strong, and he is not willing to fight with the arrogant Le Shaohua. So the effect of highlighting is not obvious.

Chief of Staff Su Yu, former chief of staff of the Seventh Red Army, veteran soldier who crawled out of the pile of dead people, "young strategist" in Zhu De's eyes, and military commander of the absolute strength faction. The partnership with Xun Huaizhou was a strong alliance, and the two felt sorry for each other, so they were not less retaliated against by the political commissar Le Shaohua.

The commander of the 19th Division of the main division, Xun Huaizhou, was the former commander of the Red Seventh Army. In this reorganization, everyone was transferred at the same level, but he was demoted. He went from soldier to regimental commander step by step, with rich combat experience, "young strategic wizard", and was only 21 years old when he was the commander of the regiment. For people with dark hearts, the excellence of colleagues is often seen as an "attack" that challenges their authority. It is very unfortunate that Xun Huaizhou encountered such a political commissar, who was suppressed everywhere, and the correct proposal was often rejected, and he did not have the final decision, and he was depressed and depressed for a long time.

This is a problematic leadership organization, and the problem is not small. This darkness has already determined the fate of this team.

Let's look at the opponents.

Wang Yaowu, commander of the Supplementary First Brigade, was a very ambitious and thoughtful Kuomintang officer who had just emerged from the "Yihuang Defense War" and was deeply valued by Chiang Kai-shek.

In addition, this supplementary first brigade, the name is second-rate, but the strength is first-class. Not to mention the well-equipped soldiers, most of the soldiers are northerners, the combat style is tough, the officers are mostly military academy graduates, the officers and men are well-trained, and they are a team that can fight hard battles and dares to fight hard battles. This contingent later developed into the famous Anti-Japanese Tiger Army' Seventy-fourth Army.

Wang Yaowu, who had just been promoted from regimental commander to brigade commander, was very eager to make some achievements to repay the principal's kindness. Therefore, the battle was very active, and among all the teams pursuing the Red Tenth Army, they chased the fiercest, biting the tightest, and slowly showing the momentum of the lone army.

From wuniguan to Tanjiaqiao, both sides of the road are full of continuous mountain bags, which is an excellent ambush place, and the Red Tenth Army decided to take the flag of the first brigade to supplement.

Many times an event is obviously an opportunity, but the person making the decision does not have the ability to make the right choice, and then can only watch the opportunity flow away, or even become a crisis.

The ambush at Tanjiaqiao was a rare consensus reached by the leaders of the Red Tenth Army. The team needed a victory to boost morale, and also a victory to replenish supplies, and if this ambush was successful, it was not impossible for the troops to gain a foothold in southern Anhui.

However, contradictions arose in tactical arrangements. Xun Huaizhou and Su Yu demanded that the 19th Division undertake the task of ambushing, on the grounds that the 19th Division was reorganized from the Red Seventh Army, had rich experience in regular warfare, and could attack and defend. The 20th and 21st Divisions, which were reorganized from the former Red Tenth Army, were mostly adapted from the guerrillas in the Soviet zone, and in contrast, the 19th Division had obvious advantages as the main force of ambush.

Unsurprisingly, it was rejected again.

Liu Yuxi insisted on using his old troops, the 20th and 21st Divisions, as the main force of the ambush, and the 19th Division was arranged to copy Wuniguan and cut off the rear road to supplement the First Brigade.

Perhaps Liu Yuxi felt that if he supplemented the First Brigade, the word "supplement" could only be a second-rate Kuomintang unit at most, and it should be the kind of soft stick that scattered at a touch, so that his old troops could gain more battle merit and have a light on their faces.

Excessive optimism and narrow-mindedness are about to cost this team dearly.

Wang Yaowu led the first brigade of the supplement to pursue all the way to Wuniguan, found that the terrain here was dangerous, and immediately decided to leave a regiment to occupy the commanding heights of Wuniguan in case of an accident. The remnants continued to pursue in the direction of Tanjia bridge.

If it is said that Wang Yaowu is like a god, it is better to say that his intuition is sharp.

Some people are born with an unusual sense of impending danger.

Just as the two regiments of the Supplementary First Brigade were about to enter the ambush circle, a Red Army soldier who had not experienced that scene was overly nervous and caused the gun to go off, and an angry Liu Yuxi had to order an early attack.

Wang Yaowu's vanguard troops found that the Red Army had an ambush, quickly deployed, seized the favorable terrain on both sides, and quickly organized defensive positions to begin confrontation with the Red Army.

Although the Supplementary First Brigade did not all enter the ambush circle, because the Red 20th and 21st Divisions preemptively controlled the commanding heights and suppressed the firepower formed by the Supplementary First Brigade, Wang Yaowu's troops were at a disadvantage from the beginning.

But soon, Wang Yaowu found that the combat effectiveness of the Red 20th Division was not very strong, so he concentrated his firepower to attack the heights where the Red 20th Division was located. Soon, a hole was torn in the red 20th division's defensive line, and then Wang Yaowu's troops poured into the Red Army position from this opening, seizing control of a number of highlands, and the initiative of the battlefield was immediately transferred to Wang Yaowu's hands.

According to the original plan, as soon as the ambush battle began, the 19th Division of Xunhuaizhou advanced towards Wuniguan and copied Wang Yaowu's rear road.

Seeing that the Red 20th Division's defensive line had collapsed, and there was no point in the Red 19th Division to copy Wuniguan again, Liu Yuxi hurriedly changed his plan and ordered the 19th Division to return to help.

Unfortunately, Xun Huaizhou did not obey the order, and even if Fang Zhimin wrote a letter to transfer, he could not be transferred back.

Perhaps it was suppressed for too long, and Xun Huaizhou decided to resist the battlefield to prove his correctness and to "win by surprise" once.

But he also looked down on Wang Yaowu.

When the Red 19th Division rushed to Wuniguan, a regiment left behind by Wang Yaowu had already taken control of Wuniguan and its nearby commanding heights.

The interspersed operation of the Red 19th Division was clearly seen by the Nationalist army on the mountain, and the top-down firepower network suppressed the Red 19th Division at the foot of the mountain and could not be carried out at all.

The division commander Xun Huaizhou raised his machine gun and personally charged upwards, and after several repeated bloody battles, the Red 19th Division finally captured Wuni Pass.

However, at this time, the Red 19th Division had also suffered heavy casualties, and it no longer had the strength to organize a charge, nor the ability to organize a defensive line that cut off the rear road of Wang Yaowu's troops.

To make matters worse, Xun Huaizhou was seriously injured in the charge, and later fell off the stretcher during the transfer, the wound was torn, bleeding too much and unfortunately died at the age of 22.

A generation will star, and thus fall.

Seeing that this battle was hopeless, Liu Yuxi and Fang Zhimin decided to lead their troops out of the battle.

An ambush battle that had a chance of winning ended in a crushing defeat for the Red Tenth Legion due to various internal and external factors.

After the retreat, the Red Tenth Army was tired of the encirclement and blockade of the Kuomintang's heavy troops, and Liu Yuxi's commander and Fang Zhimin were captured one after another, heroically and righteously, only Su Yu finally broke through with the wounded Le Shaohua and the remnants of more than 800 people (more than 400 people).

It was not until 13 years later, at Meng Lianggu, that Su Yu's troops completely annihilated the Seventy-fourth Division (that is, Wang Yaowu's Seventy-fourth Army), which washed away the shame of Tan Jiaqiao's folding and avenged the late comrades-in-arms.

If Xun Huaizhou did not sacrifice, with his ability, he would certainly shine on the battlefield of the Liberation War, where the large corps fought. With his military merits and qualifications, what do you think he will be awarded?
