Shenzhen painter tore off a hundred works, implying zero innovation, hoping that "the epidemic will never return"

During the epidemic prevention and control period from 2020 to 2021, Yin Xiaolong, a well-known artist in Shenzhen, insisted on creating works every day, creating more than 200 works of art in different forms such as Chinese paintings, experimental ink paintings, and calligraphy to commemorate the "battle" of mankind's common fight against the epidemic. On the afternoon of December 31, 2021, at the Aohu Art Village in Shenzhen, he spent four hours tearing up all 100 selected works and commemorating them with videos and a small number of photos.

It is understood that young artist Yin Xiaolong, graduated from Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in 2001, was once a contracted artist for Shenzhen Splendid China. He is also the co-founder of a number of public welfare organizations in Shenzhen, and the earliest promoter of creative art in sand painting in China. In the field of modern ink painting, new Chinese painting, artistic creativity and design, it has its own exploration.

Why did Yin Xiaolong do this performance art? He said that artists should have the courage to break themselves, not to break or stand. Creation is not repetition and looping, otherwise it is not creation. On the other hand, he hopes that "the epidemic will never return" and tear up the works during the epidemic prevention and control period, not to forget, but to pray, hoping that the "epidemic" that mankind is facing will pass as soon as possible. Tear off the fragments of the work, he will not throw away, will retain, when the right time to take the opportunity to participate in the exhibition. At the same time, as an artist and art teacher, I want to tell children to have a spirit of doubt through this "behavior", not to rush to make quick profits, including questioning themselves, passing on the spirit of courage to return to zero and innovating, having the courage to break themselves, to have self-confidence, and to believe that they can be better and be better themselves.

Yin Xiaolong said: The creation of art is the pursuit of the self, writing down words and paintings are reflections on the self and the world, their own understanding and thinking about abstract things in a concrete form, when the work is created at the moment, it also completes the thinking and emotional expression, the meaning of artistic creation has been realized for the author, if you throw away the utilitarianism, these works are worthless to yourself, just like the leftover food residue, except for pouring out useless but in their own view, The value of artwork lies in the fact that artists should think about how human nature thinks, what they can see from it, whether the ideas expressed in the work can resonate, and whether the individual soul can be enlightened and sublimated.

As an art educator, I want to tell children in this form; if the creation of works is only for the pursuit of commercial interests, it will lose the value purpose of creation, as an art teacher, the reason for destroying their own works, but also to pass on the children not to rush to the value of short-term profit, creation and art works to have an independent thinking and questioning spirit, including reflection and questioning of themselves, to have the courage to break themselves, believe that they can be better, have the confidence to do better themselves.
