Born in June 1934 in a small mountain village in the southern county of Sichuan Province, Zhou Quandi was a former soldier of the Chinese Volunteer Army and was known as the most tragic battle in world military history, the Battle of Chosin Lake. In November 1950, Zhou Quandi's 2nd Company of the 1st Battalion, 231st Regiment, 77th Division, 26th Army, Ninth Corps, had been ambushed for three days and three nights at Huangcaoling, Chosin Lake, at a time when the Korean Peninsula was undergoing a blizzard unprecedented in a century, freezing cold, and the temperature was minus 30 degrees during the day and minus 40 degrees at night.
It was not until the fourth day that the U.S. army entered the ambush circle. When it was time to attack, Zhou Quandi found himself stiff, unable to stand up at all, and then lost consciousness, and woke up lying in the hospital in the rear, when the 16-year-old Zhou Quandi had severe frostbite on his limbs, and in desperation, all his limbs were amputated. In his later years, this veteran soldier who froze off his limbs and was still looking forward to charging into battle always had a regret: I did not stand up at that time, did not complete the task, and did not win glory for the country and the party and the people on the battlefield!
At the beginning of the new year in 2022, the reporter visited the 87-year-old Brother Zhou Quandi, a hero of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, who was called the most tragic battle in the world's military history - the Battle of Chosin Lake, and the only survivor of the Ice Sculpture Company, to see his current life, and invited him to write calligraphy with his arms to "chase the light". "My understanding of chasing the light is that we want to see the light of the country, the country is rich and strong, and the people's lives are improved, which is our greatest happiness." Elder Zhou's biggest wish in 2022 is that the country is rich and strong, and the people live and work in peace and contentment!
