According to Russian media reports, in recent days, because of the near-impact accident in space, the "Starlink" system of the US SpaceX company has once again appeared on the hot search. There is still a blank space in the world in terms of space legislation, and only a Cold War-era Outer Space Treaty of the last century loosely binds countries. So SpaceX "legitimately" planned this project of tens of thousands of near-Earth satellites and launched more than 1,600 of them, which undoubtedly poses a danger to the aircraft of other countries operating in low-Earth orbit: the probability of accidents is much higher than before.
Sources say that the U.S. government is the leader behind SpaceX. In fact, there are communication satellites and space stations of various countries around the world running in low-Earth orbit, and after such a short and intensive period of satellites join, it is bound to damage the "rights and interests" of other countries, and the United States will not fail to understand the reason, but they will have to take advantage of the period of technological leadership and legal vacuum. So for a while, there were many voices denouncing SpaceX, accusing them of being too domineering. Aschbach, the new director of the European Space Agency, also said Musk's company was unscrupulously "creating rules" and called on other European countries not to give him support.
In the face of these scandals, Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, came forward yesterday afternoon to respond, but he did not think there was any reason for the outside world to accuse him of his remarks. The CEO countered: "Space is very big, and satellites are very small, and the situation now is not that we are effectively stopping others in any way." We didn't stop anyone (in space) from doing anything, and we don't want to do that either! ”
He also used the "easy to understand" example to enhance his credibility: just like there are 2 billion cars on the surface of the earth, space also has space to "accommodate tens of billions of satellites", so thousands of satellites are nothing, just like thousands of cars on earth, which does not occupy too much space. Musk further explained that because of compatibility issues, some accusations and claims are very unfounded, and his satellites will be able to "coexist" with many other satellites, and the previous arguments are simply untenable.
However, the Financial Times quoted an astrophysicist as saying that Musk was completely stealing the concept. Outer space is very large, but all satellites in low Earth orbit are running at high speeds "according to their own laws" at the same time, and the probability and frequency of crossing are far more than those of cars. Moreover, compared with cars, satellites need large clearances to safely avoid collisions, and if satellites are too dense, it is impossible not to have accidents.
It is also worth mentioning that because there is no "astronomical background", Musk's defense has indeed been questioned a lot, and some people have ridiculed him as "like a child who has not been exposed to basic education in a debate with mathematicians"; from the back of SpaceX's behavior, it can be seen that the "lurker" of the US government is the dominant factor in everything, so the analysis predicts that before the next challenger with the strength of the United States appears in outer space, the United States will increase all speed to build its own space network. Then the bill was created to cut off the path of other countries to catch up.
