Kung Fu pays off! Europe produced its first lithium battery, and a number of Chinese companies have gone to Europe to build factories

Since finding that the development of its own new energy industry lags behind the world, the European one is anxious, first in 2017 to set up a battery alliance, intending to vigorously develop its own electric battery industry; and then proposed to achieve at least 30 million zero-emission vehicles on the road in 2030, and local factories will meet the goal of 90% of battery demand. The effort paid off, and this series of actions in Europe finally has an echo in 2020.

According to the data, the sales of electric vehicles in Europe exceeded 1.3 million in 2020, ranking the world's number one for the first time. Recently, Europe's lithium battery dream has also taken a key step, and Northvolt, the rising star of the local battery industry, produced the first lithium battery, which the company also described this exciting moment as a "new chapter in the history of industry".

At present, South Korea's LG, Samsung SDI and other enterprises have left for Europe, China's battery giant Ningde era as early as 2019 to set up factories in Europe, Hive Energy, Fu Neng Technology, Envision Power, BYD, etc. have also accelerated the progress of factory construction in Europe. Japanese giant Panasonic, which was abandoned by Tesla, regards the European battery market as an important retreat for itself. Overall, the european power battery market prospects are promising.

According to a report released by a European agency, as of June this year, there were about 38 battery factories under construction in Europe, with a total investment of more than 40 billion euros (equivalent to 288.3 billion yuan), and the annual battery production capacity added up to 1,000 gigawatt hours (GWh), equivalent to the production of 16.7 million pure electric vehicles.

At present, in addition to attracting major battery giants to build factories, the EU is also actively laying out lithium mines around the world. However, the only countries in Europe that have lithium resources are Germany and the Czech Republic, and the sources of lithium ore supply are mainly Australia, Canada, Brazil and Chile. Therefore, in addition to the layout of lithium ore resources, the EU has not yet thought of a plan to recycle resources from waste batteries.

Previously, the European Union has formulated a battery recycling plan, intending to extract lithium, cobalt, nickel and other resources from recycled batteries by 2030, and strive to use this trick to reduce the demand for related raw materials. However, clear-eyed people are very clear that although Europe continues to increase investment in electric batteries, lithium batteries have finally ushered in the first production of locality, but it is still far from the day when this industry achieves self-sufficiency.
