On February 9, Chery released the news that on the morning of the 8th, its first "global car", OMODA 5, rolled off the production line for the first time in the second workshop of final assembly in Wuhu. Chery said that the OMODA 5 is its first model to be developed entirely according to the definition of international market demand, and this car will represent Chery's entry into the EU market.
The new car shows Chery's new "Art in motion" design concept, and the Middle Net adopts a borderless design, reminiscent of the Changan UNI series, and OMODA 5 is reminiscent of UNI-T in terms of vehicle impression. However, the new car still has its originality, in the application of split headlights, through-type decoration and slip-back modeling, through-type taillights, imitation double exhaust and other popular elements, its overall sense of coordination and balance, the sense of grade reflects Chery's design and modeling skills as a veteran car company.
The interior is designed in two colors like the exterior, with dual 12.3-inch curved screens in the center control and integrated sports seats. In terms of space, the OMODA 5 is 4400x1830x1585mm in length x width and height, and the wheelbase is 2630mm. In terms of power, the new car will be equipped with Kunpeng Power 1.6TGDI engine, and electric and hybrid versions will be launched worldwide.
According to Chery's official introduction, OMODA 5 is developed according to its V-shape forward development system, from the freezing of the sludge model to the first car off the production line, it takes 18 months, it will meet the regional safety assessment (NCAP) five-star standards including China, the European Union, Australia, Central and South America, Southeast Asia and other regions. Chery revealed that the first batch of new cars will include More than 30 countries and regions around the world, such as Russia, South Africa, and Chile, and will then be further exported to the European Union, Australia, New Zealand and other new overseas markets.
According to official data, Chery's overseas vehicle sales in 2021 were 269,100 units, an increase of 136% year-on-year, with the momentum of rapid growth in the base, and the cumulative overseas sales also exceeded 1.9 million units, not far from 2 million vehicles. The arrival of OMODA 5, on the one hand, is the embodiment of Chery's emphasis on overseas markets, increasing investment and competitive advantage, and on the other hand, it will also be an "upgrade" of Chery's overseas business, and its release effect is worth looking forward to.
