He had encountered many enemies in his life, the most powerful of which was Kaldan, with whom Kangxi had fought him many times.
The figure of Kaldan can be said to be quite unsimple, he is considered to be the reincarnation of the living Buddha, because before he was born, the Tibetan monk Wensa Living Buddha said to Kaldan's mother that after his death, he would reincarnate into her womb, and she gave birth to Kaldan, and Kaldan was therefore considered to be the reincarnation of the living Buddha, saying that he had a half-human, half-god body.
Gardan was sent to Tibet to study Buddhism at a very young age because he was a living Buddha, and it is reasonable to say that those who study Buddhism should have compassion, but Kaldan is completely different, he does not have compassion like a living Buddha, but after hearing the news of the tribal coup, he immediately returned to his tribe and became the leader of the tribe. He had great ambitions, defeating all the surrounding tribes, establishing the Dzungar Khanate, and challenging the countries of the Western Regions, eventually threatening Beijing.
In order to protect his people and maintain the stability of the country, Kangxi decided to march on the throne. In 1690, it was the first time that Kangxi fought with Kaldan, although Kaldan fought bravely, but did not have a very powerful weapon, Kangxi was very advantageous in the number of participants and weapons, so the first battle between the two, Kangxi successfully repelled Kaldan.
In Kaldan's view, Kangxi was also a very strong enemy, a rare opponent, the first defeat made him feel humiliated, so he asked for help from Tsarist Russia in the north, claiming that he had borrowed sixty thousand weapons, Kangxi did not fear this, did not give him the opportunity to recuperate, but took the initiative to fight with Kaldan, Kaldan suffered defeat, but unfortunately this battle could not succeed in capturing him alive, he fled again.
Kaldan did not get rid of it for a day, Kangxi was always unable to rest assured, Kangxi had ordered surrender, but Kaldan had no intention of surrendering, so Kangxi led the army to conquest Kaldan for the third time, Kaldan had already fallen apart internally, he was rebelled, his nephew defected to the Qing army, so Kaldan also died soon after.
There are two accounts of his death, one is that he died of illness and the other is that he died by suicide. No matter how he died, this was great news for Kangxi, after all, as long as he was in one day, he would become a threat to the Qing Dynasty, and after successfully defeating this great enemy, the Qing Dynasty would be more peaceful.
After learning of the death of Kaldan, the greatest enemy, Kangxi was so excited that he looked up at the sky and sighed, and fell to his knees by the Yellow River to thank the heavens... From this move, it is enough to show that Gardan's position in Kangxi's mind is definitely the greatest enemy of Kangxi's life.
